The stance behind the presence of the Ford F-Series has always been based on the ability to provide drivers with the power of choice when it comes to selecting a truck that fits their way of life. But as the years have gone by, the need for a versatile lineup that could deliver toughness as well as versatility became a focus for this American automaker. The Ford F-Series now offers everything from the venerable F-150 to the hulking Super-Duty participant, the F-750. The largest commercial truck in the lineup, the Ford F-750 is a hard target to miss. As with the F-450, F-550, and F-650, the Ford F-750 is a familiar hauler for industrious needs from coast to coast. The Ford F-750 is often employed by municipalities for sanitation and emergency response units while also holding strong for contractors, towing companies, and the like.
The Ford F-750 is available in three cab configurations: regular cab, SuperCab, and Crew Cab. Its base power is generated by a 6.7L Cummins turbo diesel responsible for 200 horsepower and about 520 pounds-per-foot of torque. A stronger Cummins engine, improved with the power-enhancing parts, kicks it up a notch, going to 325 hp with 750 pounds-per-foot of torque, while the Caterpillar engines produce 210 horsepower with 520 pounds-per-foot of torque or 300 hp and 860 pounds-per-foot of torque, respectively. Engines are mated to a standard five-speed automatic Allison wide-ratio transmission with a five, six, or seven-speed manual as optional. Quadraulic ABS brakes and the Belt-Minder safety belt system round out the safety features with Traction Control offered as an extra. As for the exterior parts of the Ford F-750, chrome front-bumpers, rectangular mirrors, and roof-clearance lamps are standard. The list of optional Ford F-750 parts and equipment includes an engine exhaust brake, rear air suspension, and PTO (Power Take Off).
Trim levels for the Ford F-750 Super Duty are the base XL and the more upscale XLT. With the F-750 XL, drivers get manual air conditioning, vinyl seats, a chrome front-end grille, cloth sun visors, and a hi-back driver's seat. The XLT trim package offers amenities such as a CD stereo system, driver/passenger seats with head restraints, intermediate folding center back, cloth seating, molded door-trim panels, and power accessories. While the Ford F-750 hasn't been on the road as long as its other F-Series teammates, it has still managed to become a relied upon staple of industry due to its top-quality build and impressive strength. Thanks to a towing capacity that is rated at 16,000 pounds and up, the Ford F-750 Super Duty is up to just about any task a fleet truck could be called upon to handle.
Tough jobs call for tough trucks and the Ford F-750 can be leaned on for anything a driver needs. Whether it's hauling, towing, or just providing a reliable machine to traverse the landscape in, the F-750 has been getting it done for over a decade. But just because this monster plows down the streets like an offensive lineman clearing up space on the gridiron doesn't mean it can't be dressed up with a more personalized identity.
