The trailers usually have provisions for the lights. However, custom trailers must be outfitted with custom mounts that will work with the trailer lights. Each trailer light is wired into the corresponding side of your vehicle's light wiring. When something goes wrong with the lights, you assume that the problem is in the trailer, right? But reality tells a different story. For the most part, the culprit is your vehicle's lighting system, so you better start with it.

The second reason why trailer lights stop functioning is exposure to rain, snow, and road hazards. Also, notwithstanding that wires often run inside a plastic loom, they're still prone to damage. Many of you probably had a run-in with the police because of your malfunctioning trailer lights and had to offer a lame excuse like they were functioning fine when you were leaving the house. Yes, that's a hard case. Actually, besides wheel bearing problems that are considered to be the number one source of trailer issues, electrical problems come in a close second.

Among all the enemies of every electrical connection, water is the worst enemy. Trailer owners often joke that water is dying for a chance to damage at least a tiny crimp connector. If the lights are going for a boat trailer, you should ensure they are waterproof because they often get wet or even submerged in water. Also, waterproof your splices to prevent electrical shorts. Do you agree now that buying aftermarket trailer light kits is part and parcel of trailer ownership?

In theory, trailer lighting replacement is a simple task and you don't have to read complicated diagrams to replace the lights. However, in practice, it may be not that easy. Therefore, if you are not confident in dealing with the replacement, then enlist the help of your auto repair mechanic. Remember that at night and in poor visibility a functioning set of trailer lights is definitely your best insurance against collision. So, never ignore blinking or fading trailer lights if you really want to enjoy your trailering.

Clearance light replaces broken on rear of a trailer. The replacement part is of the better quality than the original equipment.
