About Ford Focus

The Ford Focus hit the streets in 2000 as a sedan, hatchback, and wagon. It was designed to be an economical sedan Ford could market not only in the US, but also around the world. Initially, the model was outfitted with an SOHC 2.0L inline four-cylinder engine capable of around 110 horsepower while a slightly more powerful Zetec was offered that was good for an additional 20 hp. Engines were mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Early trim levels consisted of the base LX, SE, and ZTS. In 2001, the model was updated with such Ford parts as optional antilock brakes, front-side airbags, and stability control. A year later, a four-door hatchback (ZX5) was introduced, giving the model four body styles for drivers to choose from. In 2004, Ford unveiled a 2.3L inline four-cylinder with 145 horsepower. Shortly thereafter, Ford introduced the SVT hatchback, which was marketed towards a young demographic and came with a four-cylinder that threw out up to 170 horsepower directed through a six-speed transmission. While it may not have seen any drastic changes in the beginning, constant improvements were made by the company to the Ford Focus to keep the model enticing.

In 2005, the Ford Focus received a slight redesign which included engine options such as a 2.0L four-cylinder (136 hp) and a 2.3L four-cylinder (151 hp) offered only for the sedan. Trim levels were now dubbed S, SE, and SES. The base S was comprised of such Ford accessories as a split-folding rear seat, 15" wheels, and driver and passenger airbags. The SE didn’t deviate too much, instead adding on air conditioning, CD/MP3 compatibility, power mirrors, and power windows and locks. Stepping it up a notch was the SES, which showcased such additional amenities as steering-wheel mounted audio controls, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, fog lamps, and 16" alloy wheels. A ZX4 ST trim was also offered, which carried the following Ford parts and accessories: a sport-tuned suspension, exhaust, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, chrome exhaust, a decklid spoiler, and other sporty features to lure in drivers looking for a modern "tuner" type image. However, after the 2007 model year, both the wagon and hatchback body styles were dropped from the lineup.

The third generation of the Ford Focus hit dealerships in 2008 available as a sedan and coupe. Trim levels depend on body style and range from the base S to the top level SEL trim. The Focus coupe can only be had in SE and SES trim levels. Every variant of the Focus is boosted by a 2.0L inline four-cylinder engine that produces approximately 140 horsepower (in states with strict emissions, the Focus is equipped with a PZEV-certified engine good for 130 hp). All engine configurations are mated to a five-speed manual transmission with a four-speed automatic once again offered as an option. The 2015 Ford Focus received a bolder, more stylish exterior design, a completely revised, more intuitive and upscale interior, a host of advanced technologies for increased comfort and safety, and the additional powertrain option of Ford’s award-winning, highly efficient 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine mated to a new six-speed manual transmission. The engineers at Ford have given the 2015 Focus a new shock absorber valve design that helps to make the cabin much quieter, equipped it with a new electronic stability program system that ensures less intrusion and improved comfort, and changed the rear suspension so that drivers can feel more connected to the road.

Ask any serious off-roading expert what type of rear bumper is best for your 4x4, and they'll tell you the best bumper for extreme use (such as rock crawling) is one that's barely even there. What does that mean exactly? Translated, it means bumpers with edges that angle upward at corners and undersides that slope drastically upward will keep you out of...
Since the demise of built-in running boards after World War II, auto manufacturers have been using rocker panel moldings to dress up a vehicle area that would otherwise be plain-looking and nondescript.
