When it comes to American luxury, Cadillac is the torch bearer. In existence for over a century, Cadillac has been at the heart of the auto industry since its arrival. Founded by Henry Martyn Leland, a producer of automotive parts, the first model under the Cadillac name was the Osceola, a limited production concept car. But the Osceola is credited with helping ignite the popularity of closed-body cars, essentially changing the face of automobiles in the United States. GM purchased the company in 1909 and quickly was designated as the luxury division for the company. Power and class were the Cadillac specialty, as the brand was the first US automaker to develop a V8 engine.
Cadillac models were known for their "tail fins". The tailfins were an idea that came about as the result of aircrafts such as the Lockheed P38. Chrome was also employed on post-WWII models, yet another styling cue that separated Cadillac from the rest of the competition. The Coupe DeVille and Fleetwood El Dorado were two of the most popular luxury cars around. Cadillac received excellent free advertising from both of them since many athletes and actors could be seen driving these cars. Vertical tail lights made their way into the picture come the 1960s, further boosting Cadillac's image for fashion. The arrival of the Fleetwood Sixty Special was a flagship for luxury, offering footrests and a telescoped steering wheel. In 1975, the Seville made its debut. Complete with electronic fuel injection, the Seville helped save Cadillac from the fuel crisis that beat up the auto industry. After slumping throughout most of the late eighties/early nineties, Cadillac became rejuvenated on the back of their Art & Science campaign.
It didn't take much longer for Cadillac to find its groove again. On the heels of the CTS, DTS, and of course, the Escalade, the last decade has been a complete turnaround for the brand. Once again recognized for the elegance and comfort its models have always been heralded for, Cadillac is seeing its most consistent run of success in decades. The Escalade leads the way as Cadillac's first truck-based vehicle and is further bolstered by the EXT and ESV, respectively. Sales have remained strong, with Cadillac conducting plenty of ad campaigns geared towards the upscale driver who craves versatility as much as class.

Literally the gold standard in American luxury, it doesn't take long to realize how Cadillac has reached that very pinnacle. Credibility, sophistication, and class all define the Cadillac autos and parts, with loyal drivers from every background. The Fleetwood, Eldorado, Seville, and Escalade - all legitimate superstars and it doesn't end there, for every member of the Cadillac brand commands a certain kind of respect and appreciation that few other manufacturers can enjoy.

While Cadillac is ready to challenge all rivals in the luxury automobile segment, Mercedes-Benz seems to be a great target. No wonder, Caddy took care of providing a video showing than it can easily beat one of the German automaker's products. The battleground is a segment of asphalt with a starting line, hit-the-gas-now light tree, and a finish line. The battle between Germany automotive action and America isn't really fair though, because of Cadillac. While General Motor's luxury arm chose Mercedes-Benz C300 as the acceptive target, the American automaker chose to stick with the Escalade.
Seems like vehicles of different sizes and shapes are lining up in head-to-head motorsports fight, though it doesn't appear to be fair. The German side features Mercedes-Benz C300, an entry-level luxury sedan carrying not a representative 228-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 engine (while the most powerful 'regular' C-Class engine is noticed in the 302-hp C350). The American side in its turn boasts a much more expensive luxury SUV equipped with the 6.2-liter 403-horsepower V8 unit.
Last week, Cadillac introduced its new break-through infotainment system at the CTIA Enterprise & Applications conference. Having spent nearly 3 years on development, GM created a competitive system that offers another level of how we interact with cars.
The CUE (Cadillac User Experience) system is accessible using an 8'' capacitive LCD touchscreen. The display is housed within a black faceplate, integrated in the front console. So far, there are no resolution details listed for the screen, what is known is that the display offers 1,000 brightness, 24-bit color depth, and the ability withstand temperatures as low as -40 deg. CUE supports Bluetooth 3.0 connection, has two USB ports and an SD card slot. The system offers on-board navigation tools, AM/FM and XM radio, weather maps with Doppler radar, and integration of rear-facing camera input. CUE comes with the speech-to-text and text-to-speech features for the user to record and listen text messages and e-mails. Being based on the Linux OS, CUE supports Stitcher and Pandora, and provides an HTML-5 browser with JavaScript support. Together with CUE, Caddy introduced several industry firsts for the system, including multitouch hand gestures (flick, tap, spread, and swipe), haptic feedback (buttons on the faceplate pulse when pressed), natural speech recognition (eliminates the need to use awkward commands), and proximity sensing. The company will also offer a CUE-powered 12.3-inch LCD gauge cluster behind the steering wheel.
The CUE system will come standard on the 2013 Cadillac XTS scheduled to debut next month at the 2011 LA Auto Show. It will also be offered on the 2013 Cadillac ATS and SRX prior spreading to the entire lineup.
Rumors about Cadillac's new flagship model appeared a while ago and now a blurred gossip has become covered with new details. According to popular automotive publication, Car And Driver, there are two scenarios of this front runner development.
The first possibility for Caddy's lead ship might be a top-notch sports car which would borrow some design cues from the Cien concept that was first introduced almost a decade ago, at the 2002 NAIAS in Detroit. If that's the case, the two-seater Cadillac would use a brand new platform and a mid-engine structure that could be also used in other future GM products, such as the C8 Corvette. There is also a chance this sports car could be a large model, perhaps something as imposing as a Maybach. Naturally, such a car would be expensive costing minimum $150,000, as suggested by Car And Driver.
According to the same source, the other shape a Cadillac's flotilla leader could take is a large-sized sedan going under code name "UP". This model would be developed as a rival to such segment sharks as the Audi A8, the BMW 7-Series and the M'-Benz S-class. The car would use an alleviated version of the long-wheelbase RWD Zeta platform mated to either a turbocharged, direct-injected V-6 or a naturally aspirated V-8. The price tag of the suggested model would fix at around $80K.
Cadillac is expected to reveal their decision as to what model will become the crown jewel in the middle of 2011.
