In the world of American mid-size luxury cars, the Cadillac CTS stands alone. The C-Series Touring Sedan made its way onto the road in 2002 as an upgrade to Cadillac's previous mid-size entrant, the Catera. Cadillac used GM's new Sigma platform as the basis for the CTS, bringing back rear-wheel drive as well as offering a manual transmission. Other upgrades for the Catera included a slightly redesigned instrument panel and exterior accessories. The model saw success right out of the gate, bringing Cadillac a reenergized audience seeking a sporty yet affordable answer to the pricey imports that normally dominated this segment. As such, the CTS was recognized as the 2002 North American Car of the Year.

The first engine used in the CTS was a 3.2L V6, but in 2004 Cadillac upgraded it to a 3.6L V6 capable of 255 horsepower. Other changes included a 6-speed automatic transmission in 2005, a departure from the standard 5-speed that was first employed. The Cadillac CTS is manufactured in Lansing, Michigan, but in 2006 the brand also began to assemble the model in China. However, due to slow sales in Asia, Cadillac decided to halt production of the vehicle in China and keep the CTS as a domestically manufactured vehicle. The second generation Cadillac CTS displayed more changes to both exterior accessories and underhood parts. Now equipped with variable valve timing in conjunction with a 3.6L V6, the CTS added more horsepower and torque. An upgraded 3.6L direct-injection engine with 304 HP is also offered. Wider and longer, the CTS also features a larger grille, side vents, 18" wheels, remote-engine starting capability, and various other luxury options and performance-oriented Cadillac CTS parts. Due to its stateside achievements, Cadillac decided to bring the CTS to Australia and New Zealand in an effort to re-establish the brand overseas.

Hennessey Builds 1000-hp Cadillac CTS-V Coupe

The famous Texas tuner shop created the most powerful Cadillac ever existed. It was called V1000, the 1000 stands for the amount of horsepowers. The CTS-V Coupe is equipped with a 427 cubic-inch LS V8 coupled to a fortified transmission. The powertrain features upgraded parts like: forged low compression pistons, forged steel connecting rods, forged steel crank and ARP main studs and head bolts.

To increase the power output there were installed dual ball bearing turbochargers packs compressing the air into the combustion chambers, assisted by high-flow cylinder heads. Exterior improvements include 15-inch ceramic brakes, lowered suspension and a CarbonAero Hennessey’s widebody kit. The turbos boost the torque to 950 lb/ft at 4,000 rpm. It is stated that this “monster” can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph for 3.5 seconds, the top speed is 230 mph.

A quarter mile race will take 10,9 seconds at the top speed of 136 mph. The Company stated that there will be built only 12 Cadillacs, the lucky buyers will have the possibility to drive on the track with a retired General Motors test driver John Heinricy.

Cadillac CTS Gets Second Generation Model

The second generation model of Cadillac CTS will we based on GM' Alpha rear-wheel-drive platform, which will also be the core of the next-generation Chevy Camaro and the Cadillac - BMW 3-Series fighter, known as the ATS. It is also known that new CTS will be bigger than the present model.

Since the launch of the Cadillac CTS and the Cadillac CTS Coupe, both models were a great success and played major role in supporting Cadillac’s brand image. Keeping that in mind, executives decided not to kill the CTS Coupe even if the next model will be larger with the Alpha platform.

GM’s design department has come up with some outstanding proposals for the new CTS exterior, in addition they are working on the convertible body style version of the vehicle. The second generation of CTS will be bigger than it's predecessor giving Cadillac some time to finish up a low-volume model that will reach a six-digit price tag.

Cadillac’s Back Into Racing with CTS-V Coupe

It's official. Cadillac is returning to racing in 2011 with its CTS-V Coupe to compete in the the Sports Car Club of America World Challenge. The American luxury brand will field two teams in the GT class, both race cars based on the CTS-V Coupe, with a grand total of 556 HP.

“Returning to racing in the SCCA World Challenge is a great way to demonstrate the performance and capability of the CTS-V Coupe,” said Don Butler, vice president for Cadillac marketing. “The series will become a key test-bed for Cadillac. We anticipate using what we learn on the racetrack to ensure the V-Series stays on the cutting-edge of performance,” Jim Campbell, GM vice president for Performance Vehicles and Motorsports added in a statement .

CTS-V Coupe, the Cadillac’s fabulous comeback to racing is built on, is a seriously extended version of the 2011 CTS coupe.
