As a division of the Toyota Motor Company, Lexus has been a top manufacturer of luxury cars and SUVs as well as genuine Lexus parts since 1989. The brand got its start from a special project in 1983 directed at developing a luxury sedan for American car buyers. This prototype would later become the Lexus LS, which is the model credited with launching the marque. For the first fourteen years, Lexus vehicles and Lexus parts were assembled in Japan at numerous plants belonging to Toyota in Tahara, Chubu, Aichi, and Miyata, Fukuoka. In 2003, the Lexus RX 330 began to be produced in Canada, marking the first time a Lexus model was built outside of Japan. Over the last twenty years, the Lexus roster has featured some of the most prolific luxury vehicles on the market, including the LS, GS, and RX series, respectively. The company has also consistently received awards throughout the industry for safety, reliability, and overall satisfaction.
The first Lexus model to make its debut was the LS 400, an elegant luxury sedan with rear-wheel drive and outfitted with a 4.0L V8. Along with the LS 400, Lexus also premiered the more compact ES 250. Based on the Toyota Camry, the ES 250 featured the Camry's 2.5L V6 (156 HP). The main differences between the Camry and the ES were noticed most in the exterior design. The ES showed off a bolder grille, real wood accents, leather upholstery, and a Pioneer stereo. Both new Lexus vehicles received a substantial amount of recognition right off the bat, most notably due to the brand's aggressive marketing campaign directed at introducing the company to the American public. However, the LS 400 did take home numerous awards in its first year, including Best Import Car of the Year (1989) from the US Motoring Press Association. Lexus followed up the success of the LS 400 and the ES 250 with the SC Coupe 400, a smooth 2-door coupe that featured a 4.0L V8 and a sportier profile than the previous models. The midsize GS arrived as well in 1991 and has since grown into one of Lexus's most accomplished sedans.
As the 90s progressed, Lexus began to expand more and more, proving itself as a worthy luxury brand capable of competing with the traditional powers from Western Europe. Over the next decade, Lexus became a preeminent producer of top-quality luxury vehicles and car parts recognized all over the world. Innovative models such as the company's first SUV, the RX in 1998, as well as the first convertible on the roster, the SC 430 in 2001 helped the brand retain its share of the limelight. Without showing any signs of slowing down, the company also introduced future stars like the IS and GX. By now, Lexus's reputation for putting out vehicles that feature quiet yet powerful performance along with plush comfort and eloquent style had long been established. In 2004, Lexus sold its two millionth vehicle in the US, signifying its share of the luxury vehicle marketplace. Lexus has also put together a roster of hybrid models such as the RX 450h, the GS 450h, and the LS 600h. The Lexus Hybrid Drive system combines gas and electric engines which not only boast lower emissions, but also increase fuel efficiency and overall power.

Lexus decided to unveil its all-new 2013 GS 350 F Sport sedan a week before its debut at the SEMA show in Las Vegas. New model, just like other F models, is notable for performance, offering plenty of attitude. The upgraded car will debut at SEMA on November 1.
The F Sport package includes sport-tuned adaptive suspension, thicker anti-roll bars, new bushing, bigger brakes up front, and a set of 19-inch wheels. The VGRS (Variable Gear Ratio Steering) comes as a standard equipment for rear-drive models. The car's interior is upgraded with the help of new 16-way power drivers sport seat, exclusive trim, and the unique Cabernet Red leather interior.
Equipped with an advanced 305 hp 3.5-liter V6 engine found in the GS 350, the new model needs only 5.7 seconds to hit 60 mph and 3 seconds to accelerate from 30 to 50 mph. The included all-wheel drive system is meant to provide the GS 350 F Sport with the enhanced traction as well.
Named as a "distinctive offering of luxury and excitement" by Mark Templin, Lexus group vice president and general manager, the dynamic car is expected to please the enthusiasts.
Japanese earthquake and tsunami caused significant loss in sales of Lexus vehicles. The Lexus 11-year reign as the top selling luxury brand in the U.S. may come to an end. Still it is unknown whether the brand will rebound to the top sales in 2012 or not. The leading analyst suggested that the brand is on its way to repeat the Buick's history.
Lexus Division general manager Mark Templin said, Lexus sales are expected to decrease by 17 percent to 190,000 in 2011. A difficult first half saw Lexus selling 88,010 vehicles as rivals BMW and Mercedes-Benz moved 113,705 and 110,926 units, respectively. That gap will likely prove too great for Lexus to overcome during the second half of 2011. The information is based on the June sales, many dealerships had about half their normal stock.
At the recent media event in Chicago Templin stated, June was the bottom of the trough, and weve turned the corner. We see the rest of the year being much better for us, he also added that most Japanese plants are back to full operating capacity. The difficulties in production were caused by the supply shortages because of the devastation in Japan.
Lexus company introduced a new CT 200h model which is the world first compact luxury hybrid. To create this model Lexus designers and engineers used Toyota's MC platform sharing the one with Prius, though CT 200h has a shorter wheelbase and was highly modified in various areas. Double-wishbone rear suspension improves the dynamics of the vehicle. This type of suspension lets the tires follow the road much better than the solid rear axle which is common among smaller cars.
Engineers made it possible to adjust the drivetrain to your mood. Several models allow to make driving as comfortable as possible. EV (electric vehicle) mode will make CT 200h stay on electrics as long as possible. Eco and Normal models are mpg oriented. Sport mode will make your Lexus' steering and throttle more responsive improving stability and traction control so you can fling the car a bit harder.
The new Lexus CT 200h looks attractive, seems almost as if it would be more at home as a premium offering within Toyota's Scion lineup. The interior of the vehicle is very inviting and comfortable. The price for that styling is the cramped back seat comparing with the Toyota Prius, from which CT gets its underpinnings.
Up until now all Lexus LF-A supercars you might have seen were pre-production prototypes. Finally, the first units available for retail buyers rolled off the line at the companys Japanese plant.
There are a few interesting details distinguishing the LF-A. For instance, it took 170 people to hand-assemble the new Lexus supercar of 15,000 parts. About 65 percent of the vehicle is composed of the lightweight materials, which contributes to strength and decreases weight drastically. Probably the most noteworthy feature is that each action in the LF-A assembly process is recorded to be utilized for future reference. Each car gets a 3,500 page journal assigned at the end of the production process.
The privilege to own this exquisite piece of automotive art will cost you around $375,000.
