DODGE CHALLENGER ACCESSORIES & Parts

Following in the footsteps of the Charger and the Magnum before it, the Dodge Challenger was built to impress right from the start. The Challenger debuted in 1974 as another Chrysler competitor to the Mustang and Camaro along with the Plymouth Barracuda. The original Challenger was available in four hardtop variations, including the Challenger Six, Challenger V8, T/A Challenger, and Challenger R/T. The Challenger R/T (Road/Track) is considered the first performance-based version of the model. Equipped with a 383 CID Magnum V8 on a 3-speed manual transmission, other engine options were also available, including a 7L HEMI. The Challenger Trans Am was an early standout thanks to its racing influence. Such Dodge Challenger parts and accessories as the vaunted 340 Six Pack, black fiberglass hood, and dual exhausts made it a machine of sleek style and high performance. This is was the exact direction Dodge envisioned for the Challenger, and it proved to be a successful formula in the model’s beginning stages.

The late seventies saw the roadburning flare of the Challenger scaled back, as Dodge revamped the model as the Mitsubishi Galant Lambada Coupe. Gone was the power of the original generation, as the 340 Six Pack was replaced with a 4 cylinder 2.6L engine. Despite the downsizing of the engine, the 4 cylinders were enlarged due to Mitsubishi’s innovative use of the balance shafts, which lessened any vibration the oversized cylinders might have caused. Styling and accessories of the Dodge Challenger still kept some of the racing sensibilities the original series was designed with, including the hardtop. This was the Challenger the American public remembered until the modern redesign, which began in 2005 as plan to revive the model began to surface. Finally, the new Dodge Challenger was reintroduced in 2007. With a shorter wheelbase and given a slight lift and new underhood parts, the Dodge Challenger shares a lot of the same traits with the original, including a muscular body-shape, smooth lines, and of course, plenty of pop.

Today’s Dodge Challenger is manufactured off of the LX platform (Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum). Outfitted with 6.1L HEMI V8 and a 5-speed transmission, the Challenger has more punch than ever before. The base Dodge Challenger boasts power windows, locks, and mirrors; cruise control, and 17 inch aluminum wheels. The R/T and SRT-8 Challenger models offer drivers various other options, including larger wheels, a manual transmission, and other luxurious features for the interior such as satellite radio and leather seating. Not surprisingly, the Challenger has given the Dodge name a boost ever since it has made its way back on the market. With the brand fully committed to the car, Dodge has put forth a concerted effort to keep the Challenger front and center.

Like the clenched-fist resting at your side, the Dodge Challenger is always ready to inflict some aggression. The Dodge Challenger stands alone because it is one car that delivers on all the hype. Boasting more than enough punch to turn the asphalt into a playground with the road-gripping handling to back it up is what has made this vehicle such a hot commodity. Muscle, style, and big-time performance make the Dodge Challenger one machine that never ceases to get a crowd's attention.

Chrysler Group has finally announced pricing for the 2012 Dodge Challenger, as well as for other three models in the SRT8 lineup. The 2012 Challenger comes a little bit cheaper than the new Charger. The price for the 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 starts at $44,820.

The 2012 Dodge Challenger as well as the new Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 models will be offered with a new 470 hp 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine. However, not only the power is improved by Chrysler. The automaker also makes its new Challenger more efficient. The company has introduced the power unit, which works in combination with the cylinder deactivation technology. The name of the system speaks for itself. When driving at freeway speeds, four out of eight cylinders will be shut down. This in its turn will help to improve the fuel efficiency.

The automaker will start producing this new model in the mid of July. The delivery to the dealerships is scheduled for the third quarter.

After a two-year break, Dodge Challenger is entering the Tire Rack One Lap of America race sponsored by Motor Trend magazine. Chrysler’s Street and Racing Technology (SRT) team fields a stock 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 in the upcoming week-long competition that challenges both driver and vehicle backbone.

Driven by SRT engineers Erich Heuschele and Adam Forte, the race Challenger will compete in the SSGT2 Big Bore class. The power for the race Dodge comes from a 392 cubic inch HEMI V8, delivering 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. The vehicle can run a 0-60 mph spring in less than 4 seconds, with the top speed touching either 180 mph, if manual transmission is the case, or 173 mph, with automatic gearbox.

The 2011 Challenger SRT8 will wear 7.75-inch Hella pencil beam spotlights up front, black vinyl strips and One Lap emblems on the rear quarter panels and hood, in honor of the 40th anniversary of the original Cannonball Run, when event founder Brock Yates and Steve Behr competed in a 1972 Dodge Challenger. The aforesaid event, before it became a silly movie, was an actual and very illegal high-speed road race across America's highways.

Dodge Challenger Wins Automotive Loyalty Award
  • 2011 Dodge Challenger R/T
  • 2011 Dodge Challenger SE
  • 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8
  • 2011 Dodge Challenger V6 Engine

At the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, the Dodge Challenger received the 2010 Automotive Loyalty Award in the Sports Car Category.

The prize was established by the premier automotive marketing agency Polk to recognize manufacturers for superior performance in owner retention. Brad Smith, director of Polk's loyalty management practice, said that the 2010 awards are based on the analysis of 4.9 million return to market events during the 2010 model year.

Polk’s decision is not really surprising as the 2011 Dodge Challenger has received numerous improvements that firmed up the its position in the muscle-car segment and made customers come back for it over repeat buying cycles. Thus, the new Challenger base-model comes with a new, lighter aluminum 3.6L Penastar V6 engine that puts out 305 hp. That is 55-hp more than last year’s model. Besides the upgraded powertrain, the 2011 Dodge Challenger features improved handling, some performance-driven exterior changes and interior upgrades.

Customer loyalty is something that every automaker strives for, so no wonder that the people over at Dodge are excited about their win. “We take pride in doing our best to be loyal to our equally loyal fans, and we’re thankful that you guys have always stuck by us,” reads the Dodge's official blog post on the announcement.
