Running boards, tube steps, side steps, or nerf bars, no matter what they’re called or their configuration, what they all have in common is a place to plant your foot to help in getting in and out of tall trucks and SUVs, which is especially welcome on lifted 4-wheelers. Of course, they add a lot of style at the same time. With our huge selection of boards and steps, the only problem you’ll have is deciding on the pair that will look the best on your rig.

The one thing you won’t have to be concerned with is durability. These aren’t the boards and steps of old that literally rotted off the sides of trucks. The products we carry are made of top grade stainless steel or they’re powder coated to resist corrosion. And forget about fitment issues. The boards and steps you’ll find on our digital shelves use application specific mounting brackets and on many vehicles no drilling is required.

Running boards are the oldest type of cabin ingress and egress assistance, and were standard equipment on all early autos. But to say these aren’t your father’s running boards is an understatement. Today’s truck and SUV running boards come in lengths for the cab or cab and bed, and feature wide widths for ample foot support and textured step areas for sure, no-slip, footing. They’re attractively styled and most have smooth edges and end caps for a smart looking, yet functional appearance. Some boards are available with an optional light kit that illuminates the step area when the doors are open.

Side steps, synonymous with tube steps and step bars, come in a wide range of styles to suit every taste and budget. Most have oval tubes with curved ends, or straight ends with molded end caps, and feature non-slip step pads for traction. A variant of these are nerf steps, which have drop down steps located directly under each door that are attached to a round bar. Individual hoop steps are also available if you prefer the minimalist look. Rocker bars, also known as side armor, provide protection for vulnerable rocker panels when off-roading, along with a helpful step in and out of the cab.

If you want the helpful step, but like the clean look of a neat rocker panel, or need maximum ground clearance for off-roading, you can have it both ways. We offer powered running boards that extend outward when the doors are opened, but retract flush under the vehicle when the doors are closed. These running boards are made by the same company that supplies running boards to vehicle makers like Ford and GM. They’re made of rugged cast aluminum with stainless steel pivot pins to resist corrosion, powder coated for durability, and include pinch sensors that reverse direction if resistance is detected.

Folding Steps Make It Easier To Reach Your Pickup Bed
Maybe you've struggled to reach the roof rack of an SUV during loading and unloading of baggage. Or, if you live in a winter climate area, maybe you've also found it extremely difficult to clear snow off your van's roof because the brush in your hand wasn't long enough to reach the center. Either way, opening a vehicle door and standing precariously on the floor with both feet just inside can easily lead to loss of balance and injury. Plus, there's always a plenty of snow that spills into the passenger area - no matter how hard you try to avoid it.

Running Boards – Choosing the right Fit, Style, Function
If you have a pickup, SUV, or a Jeep, then you probably feel, as we do, that 4x4s are attractive in nature and serve as great canvasses for creating an individual vehicle identity. Because the overall shapes of truck designs are unpretentious, lines tend to accentuate strength. And bright work (or black work) applied in the right fashion can heighten bold styling, accentuate luxury, or both. We know that running boards or side steps have potential to make a big impact in this category, and we understand form is just as important as function when it comes to selecting the right ones. That's why we offer a great variety of full-length running boards and step bars as well as short-length steps. We've even got steps that fit easily onto trailer hitch openings.

N-Fab Steps: 2016 Ram 2500 Laramie CC
The steps arrived undamaged wrapped in foam and plastic in a factory cardboard box. Careful with the staples used to secure the box! The instructions are mostly well written and illustrated. I'm only moderately mechanically inclined and was able to install both sides in about 75 minutes. The only challenge solution to the install are 1) the requirement to drill a large hole for the middle support and 2) the need for a second pair of hands for supporting the ends of the steps as they are bolted into place. I was disappointed when I realized drilling was going to be required. Several reviews and advertisements said thelse steps attached to factory fittings and required no modifications. Additionally, the area where drilling is required is pretty cramped between the frame, body, and an interior cargo tub that extends below the cab. I could not fit a traditional drill in the space and had to use a more compact cordless impact wrench that fit a hex-base drill bit set. Once these large holes are drilled, the jobs becomes a simple bolt on procedure using the included clips and bolts. Of note, one of my bolts had a fouled thread rendering it unusable. A quick call to N-Fab resulted in them happily sending me an entire additional hardware package. Lifting, supporting, and aligning the steps to bolt them on is made much easier with someone helping you. They aren't too heavy, so my wife made an excellent garage assistant. Once in place, the side steps look great. They seem very secure with just a slight flex when my 215lb weight steps on the rail. Also, I highly recommend the textured finish for both durability and looks. It reminds me of a bed lining material like Line-X but with a smoother finish. It's a great match for my Laramie with the Sport Appearance package. I would not hesitate to recommend these steps or CARiD to my friends and family.
