Step Bars, Nerf Bars, Side Rails

The size of your pickup truck or SUV is the part of its appeal because it allows you to see over the traffic in front of you and gives you the room for everything you need to transport. Of course, this size comes at a cost, since it can be difficult to climb into the vehicle, especially when someone is a little frail or wears the wrong type of shoes. There is a number of accessories to solve this problem, including side steps!

Side Steps

The right side step for your vehicle can make a world of difference, because it allows you to get into the vehicle faster and easier. It also helps you avoid accidents because you no longer have to worry about stepping up into the vehicle and missing the high step. The last thing you need is to be off work because you have broken your ankle, and you definitely do not want to break the door of the vehicle while trying to hold yourself up.

However, most of them have some things in common, which makes your choice a little easier. They will also have a platform or a bar at the bottom, which is where you step up, and getting the right size for your purposes will make things much easier for you.

When you have the right side step for your vehicle, you will need to be aware of some things that can go wrong when they reach the end of their working life. Because they sit outside the vehicle, they are exposed to the weather every day, and this can cause wear and tear in the form of rust. When rust forms, it can spread very quickly, and this will cause the side step to lose the strength it had when you first attached it. You may also find issues where the step joins to the vehicle, and these issues relate to bolts or other connecting mechanisms moving or becoming loose.

Side Steps

To identify these problems, there is only one true way: visual inspections. When you are maintaining and checking other parts of your vehicle, it is a good idea to check the side step for signs of problems, so you can deal with them before they become serious. If you see rust anywhere, including underneath it, you should take action as soon as possible, because there is no real way to defeat rust. If you find the step becoming loose when you step on it, or it rattles, you will need to double check where the step connects to the vehicle to ensure there are no issues.

2014 Kia Sorento

If the mounting brackets were 1 1/2 inches shorter, they would fit closer to the car. In this model Sorento, the side bars stick out a little too far. If you make a change in that bracket, I would like to change mine out. Thank you.
