AMP Research Running Boards
Since the company’s earliest days in motorcycle racing during the 1970s, AMP Research has been an innovator in the development of systems for motorcycles and automobiles. During his time as a motocross bike racer, company founder Horst Leitner pioneered 4-stroke engines, chain torque eliminators, and suspension advancements for motorcyles used in off-road racing. AMP Research continued on to produce mountain bikes with advanced suspensions that included 4-bar articulating front forks, disc brakes, and rear multi links. During the most recent decade, AMP Research pioneered the PowerStep retracting running boards, built of aluminum and stainless steel to prevent corrosion. As our customers say, AMP Research® products deliver functionality with style that you will be proud to have on your vehicle.
AMP Research’s innovation and manufacturing techniques using superior, lasting materials have earned them respect throughout the industry and today they have grown to occupy a 55,000 square foot building in Tustin, California where engineering, manufacturing, and corporate headquarters are located. AMP Research has received ISO 9001:2008 certification, signifying they have achieved the highest standards of worker safety, manufacturing quality, distribution, and customer service. You’ll find AMP Research products factory-equipped on new vehicles from Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota and others. When you can buy the originals, it simply does not make sense to buy knock-offs from anyone else.

AMP Research PowerStep running boards extend outward automatically when doors are opened, then retract neatly out of sight underneath your vehicle upon closing. They match the good looks and full function of running boards from any manufacturer while offering the 4x4 enthusiast the ability to retain maximum ground clearance during off-roading or while navigating uneven terrain on their own property. AMP Research has engineered and built all fixed and moving components to very high standards – so much so that Ford and General Motors offer PowerStep running boards as an OEM factory option on some SUVs. PowerStep running boards are available in multiple lengths to fit your truck, and you’ll also find accessories that add stylish visual accents as well as the convenience of a 2-inch drop in step height.
AMP Research offers three different bed extender designs – each of which lengthens your pickup bed cargo carrying area by two feet when the tailgate is lowered. Choose the Max Bed Extender if you need the largest amount of contained space, the Sport Extender if you need full integration with tonneau covers, or the Moto Bed Extender with a tapered cage shape created specifically for motorcycle hauling. Replacement “Quick Latch” mounting brackets and latch pegs for hold-down straps are available, and custom L-shaped secondary brackets are offered to offset pickup bed walls that have irregular indentations or pockets. All bed extenders feature three horizontal aluminum bars which span the entire width to effectively keep smaller, lower-height items in the designated area. Whether you simply need to keep grocery bags, electronic equipment, or mulch bags secured in a confined space or you need to stretch your bed to fit longer items, AMP Research bed extender cages maximize your truck’s carrying abilities. Aircraft-grade aluminum ensures light weight and freedom from corrosion, and durable powder coat finishes resist scratches, and discoloration.
AMP Research also lets you add easy accessibility to the rear or sides of your pickup bed with manually retractable Step Pads that mount to your vehicle’s frame. Rear step pads do not require the use of a trailer hitch, ensuring your vehicle (if so equipped) can still be fully used for trailer towing, bike rack placement, or rear cargo carrying trays. Each pad can support 300 pounds and features a wide, grippy composite stepping surface large enough for two full-size work boots. For dually wheel pickups with wider rear wheel fenders that can be a hindrance while using the side steps, a mounting bracket kit is available that repositions the location of the step assembly closer to the front of the vehicle. Aluminum construction with stainless steel pivot pins provides high strength and freedom from corrosion.

Very nice piece. Pretty easy to install, only took me about an hour. Looks very nice and appears to be well made. I like the black powder coat finish... It looks sharp. And while I wondered at the $200 price, it is still cheaper than Toyota OEM, and I like the look of this extender better than Toyota's stock one.
I have the Ford F-150 two-door. The steps were actually made for a four-door F-150 heritage. Without too much trouble, all you have to do is cut the steps. This will work fine as they will look fine because they are made to be cut. After they are cut, you install the factory caps. They look just fine, they don't look like you did anything at all. So enjoy them.
Works with the bracket that comes with the bed extender for the 2013 GMC Sierra. You just have to take the tail light off and stick a wrench down in the hole. It's a little tight but you can do it.
This is my third Amp Research bed extender purchase and install (Chevy Colorado, Dodge Ram 1500, and now Toyota Tacoma). They look and function very well. I couldn't live without them on my 6 foot bed trucks.
It is very nice aftermarket add on. The running boards came quickly, work really great and look fantastic. Installation was very straightforward. This was exactly what I was looking for!
Excellent product and the easiest I have ever installed. This was exactly what I was looking for. The product came quickly, was well packaged and was a pleasure to install. Priced very reasonably.
I really enjoy these running boards! The most time consuming part was getting the boards wired correctly into the door ajar wires. Other than that I like the running boards a lot! Thanks CARiD!
I recently purchased your Power Step product for my 2008 Toyota Tundra Double Cab. While I had high expectations based on the reviews that I had read, I have to say that I was very impressed. The fit and finish is very high quality, the instructions were clear, specific, and easy to understand, and I was able to install it myself in less than three hours. Plus, it works great and is a very, very cool product. My wife wanted running boards to help her get up into the truck, and I wasn't willing to sacrifice ground clearance for them. This is the perfect compromise - thanks for making a great product!
