CHEVY IMPALA ACCESSORIES & Parts

Although around since the 1950s, the modern era of the Chevy Impala didn't begin until the model's seventh generation in 1994. Branded the "SS," it was equipped with a small-block 5.7L V8 capable of 260 horsepower and featured a sport-tuned suspension along with 17" wheels. While seen as a niche car for custom-minded motorists, this series of the Impala SS only carried on for a few years. It wasn't until 2000 when Chevy brought the Impala back to its roots. Built on the GM's 2nd Generation W platform, the eighth-generation Impala premiered with the choice of two V6 engines and showcased front-wheel drive. In 2002, the Chevy Impala became available in two trim levels, base and LS, with the LS getting the option of a beefier V6, standard antilock brakes, remote entry, traction control, leather upholstery, and a bunch of power-enhancing parts. That same year, an LS Sport version of the model appeared, showing off such accessories as a chrome exhaust tip and a front-bumper extension.

2004 welcomed in a redesigned Impala SS that received power from a 3.8L supercharged V6 generating up to 240 horsepower. A special Police Package Impala was also released for various law enforcement and fire departments. It wasn't too different from the base Impala, but it did feature a stiffer suspension, revised powertrain parts, and the same V6 as the SS. The ninth-generation of the Chevy Impala rolled off the line for the 2006 model year. The base Impala uses a 3.5L V6 good for 211 horsepower, while the 2LT and LTZ show off a 3.9L engine (233 HP). At the top is the SS, which features a robust 5.3L V8 capable of over 300 horsepower and 323 pounds-per-foot of torque. While upper trim levels offer various safety upgrades and luxury amenities, all versions of the Impala get a four-speed automatic transmission.

The Chevy Impala has become a fixture in racing as the brand's NASCAR representative, taking over for the Monte Carlo. It is also the car driven by four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson. The Impala has been recognized throughout the industry as one of the most alluring full-size sedans on the road and plenty of awards have come the model's way. It has been named a Consumer Guide Best Buy (2000) as well as having been nominated numerous times as Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year. Business Fleet magazine named the Chevy Impala the Fleet Car of the Year (2006, 2007) and Forbes.com called the Impala "Detroit's best-selling car" in an article dated February 2007.

One of the most prominent names in American full-size sedans, the Chevy Impala holds a record that is impressive, functional, and flexible. While it may be easy on the eyes when packaged correctly, an Impala performs like a big-game pitcher in the World Series. Punchy, dynamic, and sustained, you normally don't get this kind of power from a full-size, and that has been one of the earmarks that have made this series so enticing. From NASCAR champions to the everyday driver, Chevy's Impala has always made an impression.

Chevy Impala To Be Built in Detroit
  • President of GM North America Mark Reuss announcing 2,500 new jobs
  • GM Detroit-Hamtramck assembly line
  • GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant
  • Employees of the D-Ham plant celebrate addition of 2,500 jobs

Yesterday, General Motors announced that the new-generation Chevy Impala will be built at the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant. The production of the renewed Impala is planned to begin in late 2013.

The D-Ham plant was opened in 1985 to produce Buick and Cadillac products. But after the forthcoming upgrade, it will turn into a Chevrolet plant. On Tuesday, the last Cadillac DTS drove off the line, and the next week, the plant will assembly its last Buick Lucerne. In June the plant will be closed for four weeks to be reconfigured for the Impala production. GM plans to invest $69 million in the assembly plant upgrade.

There will be added two shifts and 2,500 salaried and hourly workers, which is a great increase taking into consideration that currently there are 1,121 employees. The GM will recall 1,300 laid-off UAW workers, and remaining 1,200 positions will be occupied by new hires. And even these 1,200 jobs are big news for Michigan that has the highest unemployment rates across the country. It is also said that the new employees will be paid about $14 per hour, which is half of the pay rate of veteran UAW union members.

This month, GM said that it plans to invest about $2 billion in components and assembly plants, keeping 4,000 jobs at 17 facilities in 8 states. By now, the company has already made investments in the facilities located in Toledo, Ohio; Bowling Green, Kentucky; Flint and Bay City, Michigan.

  • NASCAR Chevy Impala Will Appear in Transformers

Although Transformers 3 are scheduled to hit theaters in July 2011, several spy shots of the new characters have already surfaced the Web. Thus, three new Autobots known as the Wreckers, an Elite Autobot Commando unit created only in the comics, appear to be nothing but hopped-up and armed versions of the NASCAR Chevy Impala.

It was first believed that sporty trio would be the Stunticons, a group of Decepticons feared for their psychotic behavior and ability to form up a giant evil robot called Menasor. However, it eventually became clear that the bright trio coming in red, blue and green outfits look too cheerful to be evil. The Wreckers were first seen in the story "Target 2006" and appeared in many of Simon Furman’s subsequent stories.

Besides the naughty Impalas, there will be more Chevrolet vehicles featured in the third part of the Transformers saga. These will be the well-familiar Camaro “starring” as Bumblebee and also the 2012 Chevy Spark spied in the Autobot uniform.
