About Nissan Armada

The Nissan Armada has been one of the brand’s strongest entrants and remains towards the top of the field in what is a highly competitive segment. The Armada first sprung into action for the 2004 model year and shares a platform with the Titan, Frontier, Pathfinder, and Frontier. Unlike most contemporary SUVs, the Armada doesn’t hold back when it comes to its utility. Equipped with a 5.6L V8 that churns out over 317 horsepower, the Nissan Armada can also tow an impressive 9,100 lbs. The Armada operates with a 5-speed automatic transmission and comes in both rear and four-wheel drive.

Nissan designed the cabin of the Armada to be convenient and comfortable. The cabin area itself is extremely spacious, leaving for a great deal of legroom. The third-row rises to offer tiered seating for extra passengers and there are a plethora of overhead bins for extra storage. There are currently two trim levels available for the Nissan Armada. The base trim level is the SE. The Nissan Armada SE features rear-parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, and rear-seat air conditioning. The LE model is the luxury version of the vehicle. A rearview camera, heated seats, power liftgate, and a top-of-the-line Bose stereo are all included standard in the LE model, with a hard-drive navigation system as well as a rear-seat entertainment system rounding out other options available. An SE Off-Road trim level was offered until 2007 that showcased upgrades such as all-terrain tires and skid plates.

The most recent generation of the Nissan Armada saw updates to the styling of both the interior and exterior parts. High-tech amenities including keyless ignition and Bluetooth have been added to the standard package. Sales of the Nissan Armada have remained consistent with the exception of the recent economic downturn in the auto industry that saw sales drop for all major vehicles. Nissan has been able to spread out its marketing of the Armada due to the SUV’s versatility. To the family oriented driver, Nissan points out the roomy cabin and third-row seating. For motorists who need a work truck, the brand illustrates the enormous tow rating and impressive horsepower. The Nissan Armada has been a strong model since it rolled off the line and its accommodating presence is the key reason why.

When Nissan sought out to design a full-size SUV, they knew what they had to improve on the success of the Pathfinder without just creating a larger version of it. They went back to the basics and the Armada is the result. The Armada has power for days courtesy of a V8 "firestarter" that is tops in its class. Drivers of the Nissan Armada appreciate all of the inviting and creative storage options, allowing them to stow and steer with nary a concern. One of the big boys on the block that demands respect, the Armada is one head-turner of a vehicle, especially when enhanced with the stylish accessories and parts.

IIHS reports Armada Is the Safest SUV
IIHS reports Armada Is the Safest SUV

According to the latest report, issued by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Nissan Armada is one of 15 safest SUVs. The winner list also includes Ford Edge, Honda CR-V, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Acura MDX and Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

The above mentioned vehicles share one common feature and it is Electronic Stability Control. The IIHS considers that driver death rates have become lower due to this system. “The rollover risk in SUVs used to outweigh their size/weight advantage, but that’s no longer the case, thanks to ESC,” said Anne McCartt, the Institute’s senior vice president.

Besides the safest vehicle list, the independent, scientific organization also released a list of autos with the highest rates of driver death. Nissan Titan crew and extended cab, Nissan Versa and Nissan Frontier crew cab are among the losers. These models share a failure with the other vehicles, made by Kia, Chevy, Mazda and Subaru.

Among all vehicles the SUVs and minivans have the lowest driver fatality rate. However, the owners of the smaller cars are not so lucky. The report states these cars are among those with the highest driver death rates.
