Side Vents

Port Holes, Fender Vents

Side Vents and Port Holes, these classic automotive styling features, were prominent on Buicks of the 1950s, but then disappeared from the automotive landscape. Port holes reappeared on some Buick models a decade ago and side vents became standard features on the Cadillac Escalade and Land Rover. Today it seems like almost half the new vehicles on the road have some kind of vents or holes in the fenders.

Chrome Side Vents

Side vents and port holes were originally functional features on older cars to exhaust excess heat from under the hood. They evolved to become mainly styling features. The first ones installed on 1949 Buicks were supposedly inspired by the exhaust ports on WWII fighter planes. Even the number of port holes was used to indicate a model hierarchy, with 4 port holes on more expensive models with big engines and 3 port holes on lesser models.

Today, many factory installed side vents are again functional, especially on high performance cars. But whether they’re real or fake is immaterial, the most important thing about side vents and port holes is they improve the appearance of virtually any car or truck. For years, car stylists used such features to add visual appeal and break up a monotonous expanse of paint, to blend in with the styling but still catch the eye. Unfortunately, too many late model cars were produced without these points of interest, rendering their styling bland and forgettable.

If you’d like to liven up the styling on your ride, call CARiD. We have side vents that are functional and ones that just look the part; side vents that stick on and ones that require cutting the fender. Our side vents are made from the finest materials, including durable, automotive grade ABS plastic, billet aluminum and stainless steel, with triple chrome plating for an unmatched gleam. Our port holes come in every shape imaginable including round, square, and rectangular. We even have side vents that light up, so everyone can admire them in the dark.

Car Port Holes

Most of our side vents and port holes are easily attached with 3M™ double-sided tape. Now before you start thinking that this means your trim parts will fall off after the first car wash, you should know that 3M™ acrylic foam tape is super strong and so effective it’s used by the automobile manufacturers to attach trim at the factory. The foam core allows the tape to expand and contract with temperature changes and conform to surface irregularities. Installation is not only simpler; there are no unsightly fasteners to deal with.

Looks great on my 2015 Chevy Traverse. The installation is a little technical. I had to measure and mark the position on both fenders with washable ink marker to get it perfect. Love it's factory appearance.
