The Chevy Camaro was designed to compete with the Ford Mustang and provide drivers with a different take on the modern American sports car. Forty years later, the Camaro is still around. Re-shaped, improved, and ready for the battle, Chevy has once again unleashed this icon, giving a whole new generation of drivers a chance to get in on the action. From its debut in 1967 to its most current incarnation, the Camaro is geared towards dishing out V8 power along with the stealthy style. Even during an era where an emphasis has been placed on smaller, more economical vehicles, the Camaro has proven there is till a place for some good ol' fashioned American muscle.
Come the dawn of the 1970s, the Camaro became larger and wider. It was still a unibody with a front sub-frame and an A-arm front suspension, but the new styling gave the model additional girth. It is during this decade when the Camaro began to become a true hit with the youthful audience, as Chevy took advantage of the emerging media outlets in order to entice prospective drivers. But the engineers at the company kept at it, implementing a rear-facing intake and adding various other power-enhancing parts throughout the course of the decade. While it still carried a highly respectable name, interest in the Camaro begun to wane come the eighties until the model was outfitted with fuel injection. Coupled with a Turbo-Hydramatic four-speed automatic or five-speed transmission along with a standard 4 cylinder engine, the Chevy Camaro was once again a hit. The nineties saw further enhancements to the Chevy Camaro parts, such as an optional V8 engine, sleeker exterior styling, and all-traction control.
Chevy decided to discontinue the Camaro in 2002 due to sluggish sales but reconsidered a few years later. 2006 and 2007 saw the unveiling of Chevy Camaro concept cars, addressing speculation of a comeback. Production finally began in 2009 and Chevy got behind the Camaro this time with a strategic yet focused advertising campaign. The "new" Camaro is loaded with features and accessories and comes in several different trim levels: the LS, LT, and SS. The LS and LT are available with a 3.6L V6 engine and deliver around 304 horsepower. The SS goes bigger, coming in 6.2 liter V8 capable of 426 horsepower. As opposed to other generations of the Camaro, the current makeup of the model is only available as a coupe. With its smooth lines, modernized style, advanced underhood parts, and improved power, the Chevy Camaro is poised to take back some of the stardom it has always enjoyed.
One of Chevy's most recognizable vehicles, the Camaro boasts plenty of power to go along with its accessibility. Drivers from all across the land have found reasons to fall in love with this American icon. Maybe the Camaro's sleekly-styled exterior that has evolved throughout the model's run plays into it. Or it could be because motorists have always enjoyed slamming their lead foot down on the gas in order to "open it up" on the highway. Whatever it is, it hasn't gone away. In fact, the Chevy Camaro is now stronger than ever.

Market price: $74.94While such automakers, as Audi, Aston Martin, BMW, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, and Porsche present their vehicles to compete in FIA GT3 racing, the German-built Sareni Chevrolet Camaro GT is to hit the track this year, too. It was intentionally designed by Sareni United which in its turn was founded by Reiter Engineering to field a newly built model in GT3 racing. A real "man car" is to be fitted with 7.9-liter V-8 engine built by Katech in the U.S. Katech's famous for building high-performance racing engines for such cars, as Chevy Corvette C6R in FIA GT1 racing and the Caddy CTS-VR in the SCCA World Challenge. Equipped with high-performance engine, Sareni Chevrolet Camaro GT will produce 650-hp and 590 lb-ft of torque.
Apart from new engine and a Holinger six-speed paddle-shift manual transmission, the car receives a racing suspension designed by Reiter, an added roll cage, and a Teves Racing anti-lock braking system, a massive rear wing, and new front splitter. Moreover, the model features the reduced weight, having about 1000 lbs lost. The muscle car that will compete in GT3 is also a find when it comes to its cost. Priced $254,700, the model is a bargain. Expect SAreni to build 20 Camaro GTs per year.
A special car event took place in Las Vegas where Chevrolet presented its three new muscle cars. The company first revealed the Camaro COPO concept, identified by the company as a possible NHRA Eliminator class dragster. Being a concept, the model is still expected to go into production in order to compete with Fords Mustang Cobra Jet. Giving a choice of two crate motors, a supercharged 327 or a 427, the COPO is certainly a serious competitor on a dragstrip. Chevy's new muscle car is also equipped with 2 speed Powerglide transmission, a 9'' live rear axle conversion, and a roll cage.
Chevy's another muscle car was a Chevelle, specially engineered to demonstrate the new motor progtram. The Chevelle was also commissioned by Dale Earnhadrt Jr. What Chevy now offers is a turnkey package consisting of transmission, a motor, all wiring and ancillaries allowing the hot-rodders to drop in a complete drivetrain with the least work required.
The last model Chevy unveiled was a special edition Hot Wheels Camaro Concept to commemorate 45 years of Hot Wheels toys. With a special paint treatment which is similar to the original die-cast cars, the new Camaro features a shimmering paintjob. The model was chromed, too.
The automotive world welcomed the 2012 Chevy Camaro at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show, opened this spring. General Motors had great expectation for new Chevy Camaro naming it the fastest beast ever shown. Equpped with supercharged 6.2-liter V8 power plant matted to six speed Tremec manual transmission and dual-disc clutch system, the ZL1 was expected to make 550 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque. Then six months prior to the vehicle's scheduled production, Chevy has released new details regarding the performance of the Camaro ZL1. Chief engineer Al Oppenheiser confirmed that ZL1 would produce more power than a previously stated 550 hp, so the final output rating would be more than that of the 556-hp Cadillac CTS-V. Moreover, the vehicle would get the ZR1's Performance Traction Management system and an optional automatic transmission. However, the official SAE testing of the 2012 Chevy Camaro has been recently completed. According to the impressive testing results, the official horsepower of the ZL1 will come at something higher than 570 hp, that exceeds all previous expectations.
2012 Chevy Camaro 45th Anniversary Edition debuted at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This particular Camaro is presented as a slightly modified limited edition model. So what exactly has been modified in Camaro 45th Anniversary Edition? This edition has a LSX V6 engine with 323 horsepower, at the same time SS Coupe is offered with FE4 suspension package including 23-mm front sway bar and 24-mm wide rear sway bar.
Major modifications are present in the interior of the car. They include new steering wheel, borrowed from other Chevy model and resized; new dash insert, which gives the dash less plastic look; steering wheel medallion at the bottom of it and stylish red, white and blue stitches on the shift knob, steering wheel and seats.
The exterior received lesser but noticeable modifications as well. They include 45th hood decal, front fender emblems, a rear stripe and astonishing unique 20 wheels. It also comes in Carbon Flash Metallic color.
2012 Chevy Camaro 45th Anniversary Edition will be available in limited quantity but yet Chevy has not mentioned what number that is exactly.
