Van Spare Tire Carriers

For many business owners a van is a valuable piece of equipment. If your van is a necessity for earning a living, you can’t let anything stop you from getting the job done, so you have to be prepared for circumstances that could prevent or delay you from reaching your destination. An essential part of being prepared is carrying a spare tire. Whether you’re a contractor or tradesman, or make deliveries, you don’t want to end up on the side of the road with a flat tire and no spare, or one that’s time consuming to get to.

But even if you use your van strictly for pleasure, like family camping trips or heading out with friends to explore the wilderness, taking a spare is equally important for peace of mind and to prevent spoiling the trip. You never know what you’re going to encounter on the roadway, especially when traveling in unfamiliar places. All it takes is contact with a nail or sharp piece of metal found in a construction zone to puncture a tire and put a stop to your journey. As long as you have a handy spare you can continue your adventures.

Now carrying a spare tire may seem common sense to most vehicle owners, but when you consider where the spare is mounted on some vans it becomes easier to understand why a spare might get left behind. Some vans have the spare mounted inside, in the cargo area, and whether you need the space for business or to get every last bit of vacation gear loaded, it can be tempting to take a chance and leave the spare behind to get some extra room. And while this will affect some vans and not others, if you change over to custom wheels and tires that are different than the OE sizes, a matching spare may not fit in the same mounting place.

Many vans carry the spare in a carrier located under the vehicle, and these present their own challenges. Accessing a spare tire mounted underneath a vehicle is a hassle on a nice day; add in some rain or snow and it becomes a very unpleasant task. It’s also not uncommon for the mechanism in the carrier that lowers and raises the tire, which is continually exposed to water, ice and road salt, to corrode and fail. Of course, this condition usually only reveals itself when you need the spare and can’t remove it from the carrier. And just like with an interior mounted spare, if you mount different size wheels and tires, a matching spare may not fit with the factory carrier.

Forget about having to choose between cargo room and a spare, or groveling on the ground and dealing with a finicky carrier, upgrade your van to a door mounted carrier. Our van spare tire carriers are made of heavy-duty steel to supply ample support for the wheel and tire assembly, and they’re powder coated black to resist corrosion and provide premium long lasting appearance. Each is crafted for a specific year, make, and model application so you can be assured of perfect fit and easy installation. With your spare conveniently mounted to the rear door, you’ll have easy access if you need it without sacrificing cargo space or having to crawl under your van.

Ford Spare Tire Mount
Easy to install and fit the door as stated. I had to drill an extra hole for the lug in order to center the tire on the door. Other than that, it works great.

Carriage Bolts for a Tire Rack?!
The tire rack fits the full width back door on my 1994 Dodge 15 passenger Van just fine. However the carriage bolts and nuts are not lockable. Available locking lugs will not thread onto the provided carriage bolts, close, but no fit. The rack should have come with lug compatible bolts. The rack could also have been set up with holes suitable for wheel studs so these could be pressed in. The rack is on my truck but the tire is not. I have to get wheel studs welded in so I can mount and lock the tire.
