Body Mounted Spare Tire Carriers

Mounting larger tires with aggressive off-road tread is often one of the first mods Jeep and SUV owners make to their machines. Big tires and custom wheels can transform the appearance of your rig, not to mention upgrade its trail-going capabilities, and it’s generally easy to get sizes that will fit and look right in the wheel wells. But problems can arise trying to mount the same big wheel and tire combo to the OE body mounted spare tire carrier. No worries though, your spare mounting solution is right here on our digital shelves.

First of all, don’t be tempted to skimp and use the small, factory spare. A matching spare can be integrated into the tire rotation pattern, and with regularly scheduled rotation you can realize overall longer tire life. Plus you won’t have the problems that can occur when different diameter tires are mounted on each end of an axle with a locking differential. No matter whether you’re upgrading with a moderate increase in tire size, or going all the way with a set of 40-inchers, we have the sturdy spare tire carriers for the job.

Common deficiencies of the OE carrier are two-fold: First, taller and wider tires may contact the body and/or bumper before they can be properly attached to the spare tire mount. Secondly, substantially larger wheel/tire combos can be too heavy and overstress the mount and tailgate. For small increases in size, where clearance is the issue, we offer relocation brackets and extensions that can be fitted to the factory mount, so the tire can be positioned away from the body and higher to clear the bumper. But for larger and heavier wheel and tire assemblies, the factory spare tire mount should be completely replaced with one of our heavy-duty body mounted spare tire carriers.

We offer carriers that bolt to the tailgate as well as hinged carriers that bolt to the body and swing open for access to the interior. The latter are especially rugged and depending on the model, can handle tires as large as 40” in diameter. They’re adjustable so you can properly position the tire, regardless of size, and most are lockable so your spare will be there if you need it. These carriers are designed by off-road specialists who know that you’re probably not just using your rig to cruise to the corner store and back. You can install any of them with confidence that your off-road spare will stay securely mounted no matter how rough the terrain gets on your off-road adventures.

Our body mounted carriers allow you to use your factory rear bumper, or mount any off-road bumper you choose. And in addition to enabling you to carry a larger spare, some of our carriers also have the capacity for other off-road necessities. These carriers are set up for available accessories that allow jerry cans, canisters or Rotopax containers, an off-road jack, and even a CB radio antenna to be mounted. The ability to carry extra fuel, water, and supplies can make off-roading a safer and more enjoyable experience. And because a big off-road spare can obscure the license plate or prevent it from being mounted in the factory location, we offer relocation brackets that mount the tag right on the tire where it’s clearly visible.

GreatKkit for 35 or Smaller Tire
Great kit, strong, well designed. Hinges are nice and you can grease them. They also stop at a certain point when opening which is nice when on unlevel ground. I was able to install by myself. Do not open the tailgate during installation. Keeping it closed helps a lot. Very happy with how it turned out with my 35 spare. If you search "MORryde Project LJ" on YouTube you should see the video I made talking about this kit and install in more detail.

DV8 TC-1
I'm loving the XV8 TC-1 tire carrier. Had some issues with the installation....the weld on the top hinge for the eccentric broke...have bolt holding it till I can get it re welded....and the drivers side latch plate was twisted so I have to re align that. All in all it's a great tire carrier. These ar ed minor issues that I can fix when I have a little more time and some warmer weather.
