About Nissan Juke

Nissan Juke is the new generation vehicle in the Nissan lineup which appeared in October, 2010. It was first introduced at the 2010 New York International Auto Show. Based on the Nissan B platform, this mini-crossover was designed at Nissan Design Europe in London and refined at Nissan's Design Center in Japan. It is expected that 20,000 units will be sold in its first full year of production, which is 2011. Turbocharged, direct-injected, the Juke's engine features 180 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. This engine provides improved fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions and features nano finished camshafts, sodium filled exhaust valves and beehive valve springs, along with lightweight design and reduced frictions.

The most impressive about this mini-crossover is its front end styling. Distinguished by masculinity and dynamism so much needed in the small car market, Nissan Juke is a combination of SUV toughness and sporting style. Getting beefy wheels, wide tires, extended ground clearance and a robust stance with a top portion, typical for sports cars, it features the coupe appearance achieved by slim visor-like side glass graphics, high waistline, and a coupé-style falling roofline. Its aggressive wheel arches and the body's high waistline actually contrast with the slim side windows. The rear doors with handles hidden in the frame of the door continue the coupe theme. Being significantly smaller than its predecessor concept and featuring small Juke parts, Nissan Juke is 162.40 inches long, 69.50 inches wide, and 61.80 inches tall with a wheelbase of 99.60 inches. Its top speed is 125 mph. Going 0-60 in 6.8 seconds.

The model comes with three driving modes to choose, Normal, Sports, and Eco, which offer three different throttle, transmission (CVT only) and steering response settings. It is actually the Integrated Control (I-CON) system drive mode selector, where Normal setting is for usual daily driving, Sport is for more powerful performance effect, and Eco is for maximum efficiency. The Eco setting is a great option for anyone who wants to save on gas and live a greener lifestyle. As for safety features, Nissan Juke boasts dual front airbags, front side airbags, curtain side airbags, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, brake assist system, anti-skid system, tire-pressure monitor and front-seat active head restraints. This model is outfitted with air conditioning, tilt steering wheel with radio controls, cruise control, cloth upholstery, front bucket seats, AM/FM/CD/MP3 player, trip computer, IPod interface system, and wireless cell phone link.

    2011-2012 Nissan Juke Recalled

Nissan Motor Co. is recalling 79,275 2011-'12 Nissan Juke, Infiniti M and Infiniti QX models. As stated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the reason for that is the improperly installed fuel pressure sensor, what may result in a fuel tank leakage. The faulty Nissan Jukes were manufactured from March 8, 2011 to Dec. 27, 2011. As for Infiniti M sedans, these vehicles were built from Oct. 5, 2009 to Dec. 16, 2011 and the QXs were built from Oct. 27, 2009 to Dec. 24, 2011.

The first customer complaint was filed in November 3, 2011. The complaint was about fuel odor coming from the cabin of the car. Since Nissan service technicians detected the reason for that (a fuel leak from the high-pressure fuel sensor onto the fuel rail while the engine starts up), an internal investigation was carried out. According to Nissan, vehicle owners will be notified of the recall around March 19 and will be able to take their vehicles to the dealer to get the fuel pressure sensors replaced for free. The last Nissan's recall is actually the third one for the past two weeks. The previous recalls were regarding side curtain airbag problems (Altima and Versa sedans) and CVT transmission faults (Versa sedans).

As for the 2012 Juke, in spite of the recall, the vehicle has earned solid safety scores and the Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. On the other hand, the crossover features a disappointing 23rd in the U.S. News “Best Affordable Small Car” group.

IIHS Rates Nissan Juke “Top Safety Pick”

Nissan seems to be on the top these days, at least from the safety point of view. Nissan Juke can boast with the Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS. The IIHS is an independent, nonprofit, scientific organization dedicated to reducing the losses – deaths, injuries, and property damage from crashes on the nation's highways.

Despite its compact size, Juke was able to demonstrate consistently high performance in each test series. As usual, the rating is given to those vehicles that gain agency’s highest mark in all kinds of impact protection. The first test – front impact with a still obstacle with partial overlap, the second – side impact, the third – an imitation of rear-end collision, and the fourth, recently introduced – the test of roof strength in the simulated rollover.

Juke's safety systems include: “two-stage” Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS), system LATCH - child safety belts, tire pressure control system, vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and a Traction Control (TCS). “IIHS once again confirmed Nissan's commitment to innovative safety systems”, says IIHS representative. “Nissan Juke combines unexpected design inspired by the motor sport and advanced safety systems.” In the US Nissan Juke comes with the price tag of around 19,000 dollars.
