Although available in Europe since 1996, the Audi A3 didn't land stateside until a decade later. Perched right at the top of the lineup as Audi's entry-level luxury vehicle, the A3 is offered as a compact hatchback or "Sportback." There are two trim levels for the Audi A3, the 2.0 and the 3.2 Quattro. The 2.0 features leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 10-speaker stereo system, and 17" wheels. The 3.2 Quattro shows off even more parts, including xenon HID headlights and a power-driver seat, while both versions of the model can also come loaded with such extras as GPS navigation, a sunroof, and adaptive suspension.
Under the hood, the 2.0T shows off a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine, capable of 200 horsepower and 207 pounds-per-foot of torque and mated to six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed S-tronic auto-manual. However, when outfitted with the Quattro all-wheel drive system, the 2.0T only comes equipped with the automated transmission. The Audi A3 3.2 is outfitted with a 3.2L V6 that shows off 250 horsepower with 236 pounds-per-foot of torque. Quattro all-wheel drive and the automated transmission are standard parts on the 3.2.
The exterior of the Audi A3 hasn't seen too many changes since its arrival. Body side molding and tinted cabin glass are among the notable accessories on the outside. The car rolls on 16" wheels and also shows off a lot of safety features, including four-wheel disc brakes, a stability control system, and brake assist. Although it has only been a presence in the US for a few years, the Audi A3 has made quite an impression. The model has received plenty of accolades, such as being named Best Sport Compact in Car and Driver magazine's 10 Best Awards (2006) as well as a Vehicle Satisfaction Award Winner from AutoPacific (2007).
Rarely do many automobiles encompass the needs of all drivers. But the Audi A3 manages to find a way to make certain that it comes as close as it can. Intuitive design and smooth sailing only support the luxurious presence that the A3 demands. Entertaining and performance-infused, the drivability of the A3 gives its drivers the confidence they want when exploring the paved universe, and that is what has made it so special. Explosive, refined, and logical, the Audi A3 is one model that makes its own name.
