The Saab name actually means Svenska Aeroplan AB (aktiebolaget - corporation). Saab AB was founded way back in 1945. Originally, the company was concentrating its efforts around small automobile designs, but over time it became one of the premium European automobile manufacturers. In the automaker’s lineup there are passenger cars, trucks, SUVs and, of course through a different division, even airplanes. Unfortunately, as of 2011, after roughly about a decade of GM ownership, the Saab Automobile AB has filed for bankruptcy. At the present time the corporation is reincarnated as the National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS).
