Exotic, exclusive, and known for blistering performance - Lamborhini is one name that elicits chills for most car enthusiasts. Founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini following the end of World War II, the company got its start combining Lamborghini's knowledge of engines he accrued as a mechanic for the Italian Air Force with his uncanny resourcefulness. Lamborghini took leftover military engine components and materials in order to use them to build tractors, which were in short supply in Italy at the time. Lamborghini also began manufacturing air conditioners and heating units, adding onto the revenue his upstart business was receiving. The success Ferruccio Lamborghini attained eventually allowed him to venture out into his real passion for sports cars and car parts.
By the early 1960s, Lamborghini's new sports car company was on its way. A modern automotive factory located in Sant-Agata in conjunction with the signing of former Ferrari employee and noted automotive designer Giotto Bizzarrini assisted in the automaker's launch. The first model produced by Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. was the 350GT in 1963. Equipped with a 3.5L V12 engine, the 350GT was based on the 350GTV prototype, which premiered at the Turin Auto Show a year earlier. Next in line was the 400GT, a two-door, two-seater coupe that showed off a 4.0L V12. The Miura was released for the 1967 model year and provided even more awareness for the brand, as it is credited with the being the first mid-engine sports car produced for the road.
The next decade and a half was a trying time for Lamborghini, but the company rebounded come the 1980s thanks to the legendary sleekster, the Countach. The Countach originally went into production in 1974, but it wasn't until the decadence of the 80s when the angular and powerful Countach hit its stride as a "pinup model." Despite several ownership changes, the last one being Volkswagen in 1998, the automaker has still managed to offer the same kind of aggressively-styled Lamborghini parts, upscale sports cars it has always been known for. The Murcielago was unveiled in 2001 and has since become Lamborghini's flagship model. Showcasing such Lambo parts as the infamous scissor-style "Lambo doors" and a hearty V12 engine, the Murcielago has received industry-wide attention. 2003 saw the arrival of the Gallardo, an aerodynamic sports car that features a 5.0L V10 engine known for its sweeping body shape and numerous variants, including the Gallardo Spyder and the LP-560-4.

According to recent reports, Lamborghini is planning to launch several new models in the next two or three years. Future models are expected to include the Estoque four-door, the limited-production Sesto Elemento and a Gallardo replacement, rumored to be named Cabrera.
Lamborghinis major new-model release for 2011 is the Aventador LP700-4, which was officially introduced at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show as the successor to the Murcielago. Expected to go into production later this year, the Lamborghini Aventador has reportedly been sold out (for at least the next year) within just a few days after its Geneva debut.
The model expected to be launched after the Aventador is the limited-production version of the Sesto Elemento concept car, followed by another concept-based model, the Estoque. The latter would become a rival to the next-gen Porsche Panamera, Audi A8 and Bentley Continental. Besides the four-door version, Lamborghini could also offer the Estoque as a GT coupe.
Another newcomer to the Lambo family will be a replacement for the soon-to-be-discontinued Gallardo, and the press suggests that it could be dabbed the Cabrera, after one of the foundational bloodlines of Spanish fighting bulls. This entry-level Lamborghini is rumored to arrive in 2013, preceded by the Sesto Elemento in 2012 and followed by the Estoque in 2014.
