Pulstar Spark Plugs

Albuquerque, NM-based Enerpulse has been around since soon after the first OPEC Oil Embargo in 1973. By using a super-efficient capacitor internal to the Pulstar® pulse plug, an intense and energy-dense spark discharge of over 1,000,000 watts is possible using the standard automotive ignition system. That works out to over a million amps of current in a 2-nanosecond window, which simply results in a hotter, more efficient flame.

Pulstar pulse plugs require no modification to your engine or ignition system. All Pulstar plugs have a patented capacitor circuit incorporated into their plug body. This capacitor stores the energy from the ignition coil and releases it all at once, concentrating the entire output of the coil into a 2-nanosecond plasma pulse, with current densities a million times as dense as a conventional spark plug.

This concentrated spark can result in a flame-front twice as fast as the flame front from a conventional plug. That flame front ignites the mixture in the cylinder more completely. The result? You burn more fuel more rapidly. The Pulstar® pulse plug also has more “capacitance” than is allowed for a spark plug. While a conventional plug has a current draw of about 50W, the peak power across the Power pulse plug is calculated to deliver on the order of a million watts. This high-current spark is far more effective at igniting the flame kernel, and provides less variation in cylinder pressure. Moreover, the Power Pulse Plugs will not draw more current from your ignition system or ignition coils, regardless of whether your vehicle has a conventional distributor, individual coils or coil-on-plug ignition.
