The Lincoln LS is a medium-size luxury car which was manufactured and marketed by Lincoln. During its production run from 1999 to 2006, it was primarily engineered on the Ford DEW98 platform that was also used for the Ford Thunderbird and Jaguar S-Type autos. LS models were initially to be named LS6 and LS8, depending on the engine type, but those markings were soon replaced with "LS V6" and "LS V8", just after Toyota's Lexus division was a bit concerned about the naming confusion with their own Lexus LS. Along with the somewhat related Jaguar S-Type, the vehicle was the first entry-level luxury automobile produced by Lincoln after the Merkur Scorpio and XR4Ti were discontinued in 1989.
