License Plate Lights

License plate lights can be the most ignored lights on a vehicle. The average driver may be vigilant about making sure their headlights, tail lights and signal lights are functional, but until they see those flashing red lights in the rear view mirror they may have no idea that their license plate lights aren’t working. You can be pulled over, and possibly ticketed and fined if the police can’t read your rear tag. Don’t wait for that to happen to repair a broken license plate light. We have everything you need to keep your vehicle legal from lenses to complete assemblies to custom lights.

Although illumination regulations will vary according to location, in general the data shown on a rear license plate must be clearly visible to law enforcement. Along with the vehicle registration number, which is typically in an alpha-numeric format, in some states a validation sticker may be affixed to the plate, indicating that the registration is current. But regardless of function, it is also the law in most areas that all lights on a motor vehicle be operational, so you may be subject to a traffic stop for a non-functioning license plate light even if your tag can be read.

License plate light failure could be due to something as simple as a burned out bulb. But like any other lights the ones for your license plate are also susceptible to physical damage and exposure to the elements, which can cause corrosion and complete light failure. You may need nothing more than a new lens. Plastic lenses can easily be cracked and broken, but they can also become opaque from exposure to UV rays, which can reduce light output. We offer replacement license plate lenses and gaskets for many popular applications. License plate light configuration varies according to application - some vehicles have a single lamp, while others have one on each side of the plate - but regardless of how yours are designed we also have complete replacement assemblies to make repairs.

On our digital shelves you’ll find a large selection of license plate light assemblies and lenses for classic and muscle cars. While functionality is important the lights on these vehicles are more commonly replaced to restore the vehicle to its original appearance. Many of these classics are decades old, and the years have taken their toll on their lights. But new lights can’t just look good, they have to look right, just like the ones installed on the assembly line. Unfortunately, in most cases the original lights ceased to be available from the dealer years ago. Luckily, the restoration parts brands we carry specialize in making genuine reproduction parts and the license plate lights for classic cars that we offer are authentic recreations of the original components.

On the other hand, for some vehicles the original equipment design just won’t work anymore. You may be installing an aftermarket off-road bumper on a pickup or going with a larger diameter off-road spare on your SUV. In both cases you may have to relocate the license plate and need a new source of tag illumination. For your needs and for many other applications we offer custom license plate lights. Choose from license plate light relocation kits, complete license plate mount and light assemblies, or for a look that really says “custom”, license plate mounting bolts with LED lights that are built right into the bolts. Made of stainless steel with clear, waterproof epoxy lenses, they’re available with dome and acorn heads and their right angle LEDs will put plenty of light on your tag.

As It Should Be
As for my purchase with CARiD; no hiccups, transition went smoothly and delivery was made with a few days. As for the product; screw driver and a pair of plyers: 5 minutes done. Perfect fit but one issue, now I will have to polish the bumper to match how good these look. Really, thank you

Installation
I ordered this for my 2005 Jeep Liberty Limited 4x4. Everything was good except it didn’t come with any screws and the ones that were holding the old one up didn’t fit the new one, so I had to go to Lows to grab the same screw but it had to be a little thinner. Other than that everything was good!
