TheHonda Element is a compact SUV that premiered for the 2003 model year and was constructed on a platform related to the Honda CR-V. It uses a front-engine front-wheel drive layout with the four-wheel drive also available. Initially, the model was equipped with a 2.4L inline four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic. As for its dimensions, the Honda Element first measured in with a wheelbase of 101.4 inches, a width of 71.5 inches, a height of 70.4 inches (69.5 inches in the SC), and an overall length of 169.3 inches (170.2 inches for the EX-P, 170.3 inches for the EX, and 170.8 inches for the SC). The Honda Element parts and the model itself are assembled in the US, in East Liberty, Ohio. For its first year on the road, the Element received a substantial amount of attention from the press and was named by Edmunds.com as a Most Significant Vehicle of the Year (Honorable Mention).
When it first debuted, the Element was made available in two trim levels: the DX and EX. Four-wheel drive versions of the Honda Element were distinctive in that they were offered with a rear sunroof. Updates to the Honda Element parts didn't start coming until 2004, when the LX was inserted into the lineup. Additions across the board included a passenger-side armrest as well as a side captain's chair. In 2005, the DX trim level was no longer offered, as Honda sought to expand the list of options to other models. During this period, side airbags were made available as an option, while an XM satellite radio and MP3 capability became standard in the EX. 2006 welcomed in the arrival of the EX-P, which came fully-painted and outfitted with a standard five-speed manual transmission or an optional four-speed automatic (with overdrive). The Element continued to rack up the recognition, as the SUV was named a Consumer Guide Recommended Buy (2005, 2006).
2007 brought more changes to the Honda Element parts. The model's accessories were slightly restyled, the engine was given a boost in horsepower up to 166 and came mated to a new five-speed automatic transmission. Electronic stability control and side airbags were made standard for this first time. Before long, the SC trim was rolled out, showing off 18" wheels, projector headlights, and other custom styling cues. In 2009, Honda restyled the exterior, making an adjustment to the front-end, which included changes to both the grille and hood. More awards have come the model's way in recent years. For 2008, the Honda Element was named a Best Car on the Thrifty 50 List by US News and World Report. For 2010, the Element was a Top Safety Pick in the Small SUV category, as named by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The Honda Element is truly a remarkable vehicle. As a compact SUV, its dimensions are stylish and unique. The Element's shortened length allows it the ability to fit in the tightest of spots, yet it is tall enough to allow passengers to feel comfy and at home without being cramped.. Designed for both urban warriors and suburban thrill-seekers, the Honda Element is an impressively versatile and futuristic automobile that always makes drivers notice.
