The Honda Element is a compact crossover SUV with an unconventional look and angular body design. The Element’s concept was born in 1998 when Honda’s leading research and development specialists decided to design an unusual activity-oriented vehicle combining features of a pickup truck and a sport utility vehicle. It was assumed that the target buyers of new vehicle would be young drivers who need a reliable vehicle to suit their active lifestyle. In three years, this idea was embodied in the concept car the Model X. Later, it became a mass-produced remarkable Honda Element. The Element was built on the CR-V platform, but it got some structural modifications. Among the Element's most distinctive features are its rear doors that open on a side (90 degrees to the body). There is no B-pillar and opening both side doors creates a wide portal through which passengers or high-capacity goods can be loaded. The rear seats are big enough and can be configured in different ways. The model has been produced from 2003 to 2011 for the North American and Japanese markets at an assembly plant in Ohio, USA. This vehicle was available in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations.
