The Dodge Caliber was introduced in 2006 for the 2007 model year. It is a compact sedan that replaces the Neon in the Dodge lineup. The model was first unveiled at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show. It is one of the first Dodge vehicles to be marketed in Europe, Asia, and Australian markets. The Dodge Caliber is constructed on the Chrysler PM/MK platform along with the Chrysler Sebring and Jeep Compass. For its first year on the road, the Dodge Caliber was outfitted with a 1.8L inline four-cylinder engine mated to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. As for its dimensions, the Caliber measures in with a wheelbase of 103.7 inches, a width of 68.8 inches, a height of 60.4 inches (59.7 inches for the SRT-4), and an overall length of 173.8 inches.
Several trim levels surround the Dodge Caliber. The entry-level version of the model is the SE, which is equipped with the 1.8L inline four-cylinder engine directed through the five-speed manual. Horsepower for the configuration is rated at approximately 150. The exterior of the Dodge Caliber SE features such unique parts as a front-end grille, which matches the color of the body. The Caliber SXT shows off air conditioning, power accessories, remote keyless entry, and steel wheels with aluminum alloy wheels also available as an option. SXT "E" models offer 17" aluminum wheels, colored cloth seats, and foglights included into the list of standard parts. The Caliber RT shows off a 2.4L inline four-cylinder that throws out up to 172 horsepower geared to a Continuous Variable transmission. The RT is also stocked with 18" wheels, all-wheel drive, exterior chrome accessories (door handles, molding, exhaust, and badges), and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SRT-4 is considered the premium Caliber, with its 2.4L DOHC turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine (285 hp), satellite radio, polished aluminum wheels, four-wheel antilock disc brakes, and Goodyear Supercar tires.
The Caliber was redesigned heading into the 2010 model year and first showed off its changes at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. The SRT-4 was dropped from the lineup and the 1.8L base engine was no longer available inside the SE and SXT. Revisions were made to the interior and exterior while new amenities became available, including an eight-way power driver's seat, automatic climate control, and heated mirrors. Since its arrival on the roadways, the Dodge Caliber has made an impression, as the model has been commissioned as a law enforcement fleet vehicle as well as having received numerous awards from within the automotive industry, including being named a contender for Motor Trend magazine's prestigious Car of the Year award (2007). AutoWeek declared that the Caliber has "bold looks, agility, and a nifty interior."
Dodge's Caliber is an incendiary compact that runs the table. The Caliber is an upgraded descendent of the Neon, with one exception: it fits better in the current landscape than its predecessor did. Creatively styled, the Caliber offers the kind of user-friendly options that attracts a wide range of drivers. Its super-modern design and hungry performance initiates an edge that car lovers can't resist, which is how it has garnered so much attention. The right amounts of economy, fashion, and adrenaline ignite the Caliber as a leader of the new-school.
