The 2017 Land Rover Discovery is based on monocoque Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA), which helped cut off the vehicle’s weight by as much as 1000 pounds compared to steel ladder architecture. This lightweight platform is shared with the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. The new family SUV offers two 3.0L V6 options, either a turbocharged diesel capable of 254 hp and 443 lb. ft. of torque or a supercharged gasoline that can develop 340 hp and 332 lb. ft. of torque. Both are mated to an 8-speed automatic. The European Discovery comes with two more engine options, being smaller four-cylinder diesels available for the first time in this model line. The SUV takes towing capacity to the new level, offering increased rating of up to 8,201 lbs. Clever technologies like Advanced Tow Assist make towing a trailer a much easier task. Land Rover’s legendary all-terrain capability is hammered into the Discovery’s DNA; elaborate suspension geometry coupled with unmatched off-road driving technology (including the Terrain Response 2 system, All-Terrain Progress Control, etc.) make the model feel at home in the wilderness, while providing optimal performance in the city.

The interior design takes on the likes of Range Rover vehicles. Similarities are fairly obvious; a center console layout, steering wheel, and gauge cluster borrowed from its corporate brother make the 2017 Discovery give off a luxury vibe more than ever.
