NISSAN SENTRA ACCESSORIES
The Nissan Sentra is a compact sedan that got its start replacing the well-traveled Datsun 210 in the lineup. Unlike the previous 210, the Sentra was shifted to a new front-engine, front-wheel drive platform and equipped with an inline four-cylinder engine with an available diesel option. The first generation lasted until 1986 and a year later, Nissan rolled out a redesigned version of the model. This time around, the Sentra was offered as a coupe, sedan, wagon, hatchback, and Sport Coupe hatchback. An inline four-cylinder engine remained the base configuration and was mated to a standard four-speed manual transmission (a five-speed manual and a three-speed automatic could also be had). The second generation of the Nissan Sentra lasted until 1990, when it would undergo another redesign.
In 1991, third-generation Sentras began to find their way into dealerships. The exterior of the vehicle was kept similar with a smooth but boxy shape. It was outfitted with a base 1.6L inline four-cylinder engine that produced 110 horsepower. Trim levels were the E, XE, SE, and the GXE. This was also when Nissan unveiled the Sentra SE-R, which was equipped with a punchier engine that delivered 140 horsepower and 132 pounds-per-foot of torque. The model also featured four-wheel disc brakes, limited slip-differential, and a MacPherson independent suspension. Needless to say, the SE-R became a big success for the brand, as it was (and still is) an extremely popular choice for performance-minded motorists. Fourth-generation versions of the Nissan Sentra were released in 1995 with a lower nose and higher rear for a sportier look. A 115 hp four-cylinder engine was the base power, but the SE showed off the same power as the third-generation's SE-R. Trim levels were also changed. No longer was there a base E. Instead, the base Sentra was followed by the XE, mid-level GXE, luxury GLE, and the sport-themed SE.
2000 welcomed in the fifth generation of the Nissan Sentra. The model was only offered as a sedan. Power came from an inline-four cylinder engine that was good for up to 125 horsepower directed through either a four-speed automatic transmission or a five-speed manual. In 2002, Nissan brought back the SE-R in two separate versions: a "base" SE-R that was capable of 165 horsepower mated to a five-speed manual transmission and a tad more aggressive variant that delivered up to 175 horsepower geared to a six-speed manual decked out with 17" wheels. In 2007, Nissan premiered the sixth generation Nissan Sentra. Trim levels are the 2.0, 2.0 S, 2.0 SL, SE-R, and SE-R Spec V. The base engine is a 2.0L inline four-cylinder (140 hp) while the SE-R shows off a 2.5L motor that generates up to 177 horsepower. The SE-R Spec V takes it a step further with 200 horsepower. Transmissions vary between a six-speed manual and Nissan's automatic Continual Variable Transmission (the Spec-V comes with the six-speed manual as standard).
There is nothing more challenging in this day and age then to find the right combination of fuel efficiency, performance, and refinement. Often, you can't find all in the same package. But the Nissan Sentra made its name by being one of the few fashionable sedans that given the right owner, can become a stylish knockout that delivers on all ends. Its zippy performance and tech-savvy amenities have always been a favorite for enthusiasts and family-oriented drivers alike. The legacy lives on, and the Sentra is as desirable and inviting as ever.
