Black Wheels started becoming popular about a decade ago and the trend shows no signs of subsiding. While the initial move to black for some was probably a rebellion against traditional bright chrome and polished rims, today wheel buyers prefer black for many different reasons. Black can lend a stealthy, sinister air to a sports or muscle car, alluding to the power and performance within. It can make a rugged, off-road going truck, Jeep or SUV look even more aggressive. And black can complement a black vehicle as well as stand out against light finishes. No matter why black is your wheel finish of choice, we have the set of black rims that will look best on your ride.
The reason custom black rims are so enduring is the enormous variety of black-based wheel designs. If you’re a fan of basic black we can certainly accommodate you, but we can offer you so much more: black wheels accented by bright rivets and/or bolts; black wheels with machined or color accents on the spokes, lip or wheel face; 2-tone effects with black and chrome or a polished or brushed finish, or black and another color; and black wheels with combinations of the above. These features come on wheels in a large assortment of spoke shapes and patterns, wheel face and lip configurations, and degrees of concavity. And the black color itself is available in gloss, satin, and matte finishes.
With our huge selection of black rims, you can count on finding the set that is guaranteed to give your vehicle an appearance boost. You can also count on a durable black finish that won’t chip, flake or peel, ensuring your enjoyment of that great look for years to come. All our wheel manufacturers have ultra-modern machining, wheel painting and powder coating facilities that employ leading edge technology and equipment to produce the amazing designs you see before you. Black wheels can be painted and then clear coated for protection or powder coated. In the powder coating process, dry paint is applied to the wheel, which is grounded, using an electrostatic spray gun that applies a positive charge to the powder as it is sprayed, ensuring complete coverage. The wheel is then heated to bake on the finish and turn it into a hard, durable coating.
But the strength and durability of our aftermarket black wheels goes deeper than just the finish. We offer steel, and cast, flow form and forged aluminum black rims. All are made with the highest quality materials using the latest manufacturing techniques. The wheel center on a black steel wheel is formed from high strength steel that is stamped, drawn and machined for hub fitment, brake clearance and cooling, and then welded to a thick rolled or spun high strength steel barrel. A cast black wheel begins as molten aluminum that has been alloyed with other metals to increase strength, which is then put into a mold under pressure to form the wheel. Once the wheel cools it undergoes final machining and finishing. A flow form black wheel is created from an aluminum casting that is heated and spun while rollers apply great pressure to the barrel, mechanically elongating the barrel to the desired width, while at the same time changing the mechanical properties and grain structure of the cast rim, increasing strength and stiffness, and reducing weight.
A solid chunk of premium aluminum billet is used to create a forged black wheel. The metal is heated and forced into shape using extreme pressure, and then finish machined to its final form. Forging compresses the metal so it is very dense, resulting in a wheel that is exceptionally stiff and strong, but also very light. Cast black wheels are available in monoblock (1-piece) and 2-piece construction, while forged black wheels are available in monoblock, 2-piece, and 3-piece configurations. Cast alloy wheels are lighter than steel, flow formed wheels are lighter still, and forged rims are the lightest of all. Lighter wheels reduce unsprung weight, making it easier for your suspension to keep the tires in contact with the road, so you get the road holding traction you need. Rotational inertia is also reduced, for more responsive steering and faster braking and acceleration.
Our black wheels come in diameters from 12 inches to 32 inches, in all popular bolt patterns and in a range of widths, offsets, and backspacing. With such a vast number of possible wheel configurations you’ll have no problems finding rims that will fit your ride, no matter what you drive, whether you want to stay with the OE size or go larger. A lifted 4x4 needs larger diameter and wider rims to complete the tough, off-road ready look, and larger diameter rims can also enhance the performance and curb appeal of a corner carving road burner. Bigger rims can allow you to run low profile tires with shorter sidewalls that are stiffer and don’t flex as much, for more responsive steering, and whether you just want to plus-size or go even bigger, we have the black wheels for the job. If you have any questions about which black wheel diameter, width and offset will enable you to get the fitment, performance and look you want for your vehicle, our wheel and tire specialists are just a phone call away.
