The Volvo 960 was an executive car built by the Swedish automaker Volvo Car Corporation and offered on the American market from 1992 to 1997. The 960 belonged to a mid-size luxury car class. The automobile was built featuring a 4-door sedan and 5-door station wagon body styles; it was engineered with a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. The Volvo 960 was built with several power unit options, including a 2.0L I4 and several I6 and V6 engines, with power transferred by either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Designed by Peter Horbury, the Volvo 960 was more of an evolutionary step for Volvo; the automobile was a replacement for the Volvo 760.
