Every vehicle owner knows that regular oil and filter changes are a necessity if they want to prolong the life of the engine in their car, truck, or SUV. Motor oil lubricates and cools engine parts and keeps the engine clean and the filter traps dirt and contaminants that would otherwise cause wear and expensive engine damage. However, oil breaks down with age and use, losing its ability to lubricate and protect the engine, and the oil filter has a finite capacity and should be changed before it reaches its dirt holding limits. Regular transmission fluid and filter changes are just as important, and maybe more so, because in addition to lubricating and cooling the transmission, the fluid is also the medium that provides the hydraulic force for transmission operation. The transmission filter traps contaminants that, if they were allowed to freely circulate in the transmission, could clog small fluid passages and interfere with tight clearances between moving parts, not only causing transmission damage, but inhibiting transmission function as well.
The most familiar type of automatic transmission filter is the kind that’s located inside the transmission behind a removable transmission fluid pan and you’ll find a large selection of these here on our digital shelves. Many come in a kit that includes the pan gasket and filter O-ring, so you get everything you need, except for the transmission fluid, for a fluid and filter service. Some transmission fluid pans have drain plugs, but many do not, necessitating pan removal for fluid draining. Once the pan is removed, the filter is readily accessible and changing it is a simple task that doesn’t add a lot of time and effort to the job. But there are many automatic transmission designs these days and these can have different filter arrangements.
On some automatic transmissions, the filter is not easily accessible. Changing this type of filter would require a considerable amount of disassembly and the manufacturers of these transmissions often say that filter changing is unnecessary, and the filter is good for the life of the transmission. However, your vehicle represents a significant outlay of cash. If you don’t want to chance the durability of your transmission on a “lifetime” filter that’s hard to get to and want to ensure your transmission lasts, we offer easy-to-install in-line transmission filters that can be plumbed in between the transmission and transmission fluid cooler. These filters are designed to trap the most miniscule harmful particles without any reduction in fluid flow.
At the opposite extreme are vehicles with external spin-on or cartridge-type transmission filters. Depending on application these transmission filtration systems may be so designed because more filtration is needed or to facilitate filter access because more frequent filter changes are required. Either way we have the replacement filters for both conventional automatic transmissions and the newer dual clutch transmissions. In fact, no matter what you’re working on, we have the replacement transmission filters and related components needed to ensure proper filtration and long-lasting transmission performance. We also offer performance transmission filters.
What does a performance transmission filter do? It ensures more efficient than OE filtration and high flow rates. We've got a variety of filters in stock from renowned manufacturers that make filters of next generation utilizing the latest in filter technology. Look through our online catalog and find the right transmission filter that will perfectly suit your application. A transmission filter with more advanced features means cleaner transmission. A cleaner transmission means improved fuel economy, cooler operating temperatures, increased horsepower, reduced emissions and longer service life! If that’s what you’re looking for, you’ve found it here. We carry a wide range of transmission filters designed to ensure better filtration and increased fluid capacity.
