Year after year, Trucks, SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicles) and CUVs (Crossover Utility Vehicles) outsell passenger cars by a large margin, making them the most numerous vehicles on the road. This market segment includes a broad assortment of machines, from personal use light-duty pickups to heavy-duty commercial trucks, small front-wheel drive CUV family haulers to luxurious rear-wheel drive SUVs, and small, nimble 2-door 4x4 off roaders to lifted, crew cab 4x4 behemoths. It takes a wide range of tires to service this variety of vehicles but you’ll find them all right here on our digital shelves.
The reason we have such an extensive selection of tires is because in addition to the P-metric tires specified for use on CUVs and SUVs, and some light-duty vans and pickups (the “P” stands for passenger, as these are the same class of tires specified for passenger cars), we also offer LT tires to handle the high load carrying capacity of many ½-ton, and all ¾-ton and one-ton trucks and vans and some full-size SUVs. Although the LT designation stands for “Light Truck”, these tires are used on what are generally considered heavier duty applications and they are engineered accordingly.
P-metric tires have a “P” or no letter at the beginning of the tire size on the tire sidewall. LT tires always bear the LT prefix before the size. Passenger tires are of lighter construction than LT tires, and deliver a smoother ride, greater fuel economy, and longer tread wear. They are also generally less expensive than LT tires. LT tires have more plies, thicker rubber, heavier steel belts, and usually operate at higher inflation pressures than P-metric tires, all of which enables them to reliably carry heavy loads. LT tires are available in several load ranges, indicated by the letters B, C, D, E, or F on the sidewall, with later numbers in the alphabet signifying heavier load carrying capability. LT tires are also the only type engineered for use in dual rear wheel “dually” applications.
When buying tires for your truck, van, SUV or CUV the best recommendation is to use the load range and load index tires specified by the vehicle manufacturer. Passenger tires work well on vehicles that were designed to use them, but if you regularly carry heavy loads or tow, then upgrading P-metric tires to LT tires with a heavier load range and higher load index may be advisable. However, it is generally not a good idea to substitute P-metric tires for LT tires, even if the P-metric tires have a high load index. P-metric tires were designed to operate at maximum load capacity for only short periods of time, whereas LT tires have the heavy-duty construction to carry the maximum load continuously, making them the safer choice.
Along with ensuring you get the tires with the right load capacity, our massive selection of truck & SUV tires allows you to choose the ones that work best for the driving conditions you encounter and the type of driving you do. We have all the top brands in diameters from 13” to 30”, in all popular performance categories. Our versatile all season tires for road-going trucks, vans, SUVs and crossovers provide good performance under a variety of driving conditions including dry and wet roads, and in light snow, all while delivering a smooth, quiet ride and long tread life. And if you drive a sport truck or high-performance SUV or crossover, we offer low profile performance all season tires with tread designs and rubber compounds for year round traction, but optimized for handling at high speed.
If you don’t need to be concerned with snow or cold temperatures, you can get the most performance from your sporty truck, SUV or crossover with our summer performance tires. They have less space between tread blocks, shallower tread depth, fewer grooves, and commonly feature continuous, unbroken ribs to put more rubber on the road, and that rubber is a softer compound so your machine will get the power to the ground and stay planted when turning and stopping. But if you regularly experience significant snowfall and below freezing temperatures, our winter/snow tires have deeper grooves and wider spacing between chamfered tread blocks, with extensive siping, to provide grip on icy roads, and rubber compound that is designed to remain pliable even at very cold temperatures to further improve grip.
All-wheel drive and four-wheel drive are the drivetrains of choice for the majority of truck, SUV and crossover owners and you can get all the traction you need for snow-covered roads and off-road excursions alike with our off road tires. All terrain tires have more aggressive tread than street oriented tires, to provide bite on snow and dirt, but the degree of aggressiveness varies among these tires so you can get the set that suits the way you use your vehicle. If you spend most of your time driving on streets and highways, with only the occasional foray off road, a more conservative tread, with tread blocks that are spaced closer together, and with circumferential grooves, will work well on hard packed dirt trails and pavement, and provide a quieter ride.
Where the tread blocks are spaced further apart, with wider and deeper voids, the tread is more aggressive, with the most aggressive generally being the tread on mud terrain tires. With less rubber on the road, off road tires with aggressive tread don’t work as well on pavement, and they tend to be noisy and wear faster. But they excel off road, where the larger voids allow more of the tread blocks to be exposed to the surface for better bite on rocks and irregular terrain. The large voids on mud terrain tires keep them from becoming packed with mud, so instead of spinning the tires are able to grab. Many all terrain and mud terrain tires also have tread lugs that extend onto the sidewalls, for even greater traction.
No matter whether you have a single truck, a few trucks, or a whole fleet of them, running the right tires can save you money. The reliable performance and traction you get from our commercial tires will enable your trucks to roll every day in all kinds of weather without getting stuck and needing roadside assistance. Their long wearing tread and tough, wear-resistant casings provide many miles of dependable service, extending replacement intervals. And their low rolling resistance, tread design and advanced rubber compound combine to deliver increased fuel economy. All of these factors add up to reduced operating costs. We offer both highway all season and all terrain commercial tires in many heavy-duty truck sizes, so your trucks can go wherever they’re needed.
