A radius arm is also called a radius rod or a torque arm. It is a component of a suspension system and it is responsible for managing the movement of the wheels. This arm connects an axle to the automobile’s frame and is designed to prevent the wheel from moving excessively in one direction by limiting its movement range. Radius arms should not add too much weight to a vehicle. This is why they are usually manufactured from lightweight materials, like stamped steel or aluminum. Thus, the radius rod can function efficiently, without impeding the work of other components of a vehicle.
A properly operating radius arm provides excellent drivability and exceptional off-road properties. In contrast, if the arm is bad, you may suffer from numerous inconveniences and even dangerous situations, for instance, brake dive or uncontrolled movement of the wheels when they come off the ground for a couple of seconds. To keep driving in a safe and comfortable way, you should ensure your radius rods are in good shape. You also should not neglect radius rod bushings, especially if you have noticed cracks on them or other signs of damage. Our store supplies a wide collection of these suspension parts, including front radius arms, rear radius rods, radius arm bushings, and other components you may need for the repair.
