Step Boards

Running boards are the most traditional way to get an assist in and out of a motor vehicle. They were standard equipment on cars in the early days and they’ve had a resurgence with the popularity of today’s tall trucks and SUVs. Unlike tube steps, running boards have a wide flat surface for sure footing just about anywhere you step, and you don’t have to be careful where you aim your foot as you would with an individual hoop step. We have a huge selection of running boards, the only problem you’ll have is deciding which ones will look best on your rig.

We have a large variety of styles, materials, finishes, and features from which to choose. For a modern, understated look go with UV-resistant black molded polymer running boards that feature a tough aluminum substrate for strength. Or add some bright work to the sides of your hauler with aluminum or polished stainless steel running boards. Steel with a chrome plated or black powder coated finish is very appealing and delivers strength with long term durability. And for a classic look consider aluminum running boards with a diamond plate texture.

All of our running boards have a treaded, non-slip surface for sure footing in any kind of weather. They come with curved, rounded or squared-off ends, and most feature molded end caps. Many are available in both cab-length and wheel-to-wheel length. With the latter, you not only get a handy step up to the cab, but easy access to the front of the truck bed as well. Wheel-to-wheel length running boards can be one-piece or have separate under-the-cab and under-the-bed sections, which may be sold together or separately. Some of our running boards are available with LED lights at each end that illuminate the running board step surface, to help guide your foot in the darkness. These lights easily connect to your vehicle’s electrical system so they come on when a door is opened.

There’s no question that running boards are helpful for getting in and out of the cab, but sometimes they can reduce ground clearance and become a hindrance when driving off road, and some folks prefer the appearance of clean rocker panels. You can have all the benefits of running boards without decreased ground clearance and the running board look, with power retracting running boards. They extend down to meet your foot when you open the door, but retract and hide under the body when the door is closed. The complete kit includes weatherproof electric motors, harnesses, and connectors, sturdy aluminum running boards with wide non-slip surfaces, and an integrated light kit to guide your foot. A built-in anti-pinch safety feature senses pressure to prevent the boards from retracting on hands or feet.

Your running boards will be used every time you drive your truck or SUV, and although they’re well made, like any component that gets regular use, eventually parts will become worn. Running boards are a substantial investment and we don’t think you should have to buy a new set when something wears or breaks, or drive around with them looking or functioning less than 100%. That’s why in addition to new running boards we also carry items like replacement step pads, LED lights, and end caps. We also offer conversion kits to add LED lights to standard running boards, and seals and backsplashes to fill the gap between the body and running boards on select applications.
