The Jeep Patriot is a compact sport-utility vehicle that was introduced for the 2007 model year. At its debut, the Patriot was offered in two trim levels - Sport and Limited. The base engine underneath the hood was a 2.4L inline four-cylinder capable of up to 172 horsepower along with 165 pounds-per-foot of torque directed through a five-speed manual transmission or a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The Patriot was available with either front or all-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive versions eligible for a special off-road-inspired Freedom Drive package. A less-expensive 2.0L four-cylinder engine good for 158 horsepower could be had on vehicles that were equipped with both front-wheel drive and the CVT.
As for the model’s dimensions, the Jeep Patriot measured in with a wheelbase of 103.7 inches, a width of 69.1 inches, a height of 64.4 inches (2010- 65.7 inches), and an overall length of 173.6 inches. Base Sport Patriots were not loaded with standard features the way the Limited version of the model was, but still included a CD stereo system complete with MP3 connectivity. The Limited was geared up with amenities such as leather upholstery, power accessories, cruise control, reclining rear seats, air conditioning, heated seats, remote keyless entry, chrome trim, and privacy glass. Both the Sport and Limited vehicles could be decked out with the Freedom Drive II off-road package which showcased hill-descent control, 1" higher ground clearance, and skid plates. For 2008, AutoStick manual shifting was added to the CVT and air conditioning became standard equipment across the board.
There were not a bevy of changes made to the Patriot with the model heading into its third year of production, although the interior saw marked improvement. The Patriot’s cabin was reinforced with a substantial amount of sound insulation while the dash console was restyled and a new unconnect multimedia-integration system was implemented. 2010 saw the Patriot Sport’s base 2.0L four-cylinder engine became eligible to be equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. Safety features for the model were updated as well. The Jeep Patriot was equipped with antilock brakes, traction control, stability control with rollover mitigation, side-curtain airbags, and new whiplash-reducing front-head restraints. Front-seat side impact airbags were available as options for both the Sport and Limited.
Jeep has prided itself for over six decades on producing vehicles that are versatile and reliable. After all, that is their calling card. But times have changed and you do not necessarily have to look the part to play the part anymore. That is precisely where the Patriot comes in. Dynamic and highly-capable, the Patriot delivers a knockout in every single way. Its sporty suspension gives drivers the ability to roam off the beaten path with enough interior space to bring the whole gang. It is burly and boxy, holding onto that stylish yet traditional Jeep look. Overall, the Patriot is a compact SUV with full-size heart. The only thing such a vehicle might miss is stylish accessories and parts.
