Ever since its debut in 2003, the Infiniti M45 has been one of the most consistent and most admired midsize luxury sedans on the road. The M45 was based on the Nissan Gloria for its first generation but showcased a hungry 4.5L V8 engine instead of the Gloria's V6. With 340 horsepower and 330 pounds-per-foot of torque, the M45 made an impression right away for its penchant for performance and top quality of the underhood parts. It also ran on a 5-speed automatic transmission and had 18" wheels. The wheelbase was set at 110.2" with an overall length of 197.2". The model received a lot of attention for its stealthy body shape and luxurious interior accessories. The Infiniti M45 was redesigned for 2006. With models such as the aforementioned Lexus GS, BMW 5 Series, and the Mercedes E Class becoming more and more synonymous with the midsize luxury, Infiniti needed to field a stronger competitor than the previous edition of the M45. The engine was changed from the first series, with the M45 getting the more recognized VQ 4.5L V8. The M45 is available as both a rear and all-wheel-drive vehicle, with the AWD version known as the M45x. Infiniti also gave the M45x ATTESA-ETS, an AWD system that sends all the power to the rear wheels and cuts back as soon as it detects slipping. Second-generation versions of the M45 also offer more interior space than the first series, a big plus considering that cabin room was one of the most critiqued areas of the original M45.

The two main trim levels for the Infiniti M45 are the base model and the M45x. The only major difference between the trims lies in the M45x's AWD system. When it comes to luxurious Infiniti parts and amenities, both vehicles are evenly stacked. Heated/cooled leather seats, and Bluetooth capability are standard. Options like GPS navigation, cruise control, 14-speaker Bose stereo system, heated rear seats, and a DVD player can be had, as well. In 2008, minor changes to the Infiniti M45 parts were made. New front/rear fascias and blue/white gauges were introduced along with touch-screen, iPod input, and an mp3 music hard drive. The Sport package also became available. The M45 Sport package includes such Infiniti accessories as rear active steering, 19" wheels, sport tires, sport-tuned suspension, and a different interior layout.
