The engine will be matched to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) driving the front wheels. A hybrid version, as well an all-wheel-drive option are being considered for the U.S. market if the initial version sells well.

The HR-V will occupy a slot in the U.S. market between the new Fit and the larger CR-V crossover. The HR-V is 9 inches shorter, 1 inch lower and about 700 pounds lighter than CR-V. This makes the HR-V rather preferable as a sporty small crossover. One HR-V detail has been confirmed: there will be a door handle mounted in the C-pillar at the back of the rear door. The 2015 Honda HR-V should arrive late this fall or in the early 2015.
