The Honda HR-V is designed on the compact platform of the 2015 Honda Fit. In turn, the Honda Fit was also redesigned for 2015. It becomes slightly shorter, wider and roomier, especially in the rear-seat area. The HR-V extends the Fit's dimensions with an added 7 inches of overall length, a loftier ride height and a low tailgate opening. The HR-V crossover is constructed using a center tank design that provides for a roomier interior and also includes Honda’s exclusive Magic Seat, which allows the 2nd row seat to be folded completely flat for more cargo space. The passenger seat can also be folded down nearly flat to create more room for cargo from the tailgate to the dashboard. The HR-V’s sleek shape is unmistakably Honda, and includes styling elements from the CR-V and Acura RDX.

Honda has not made public the information about the HR-V engine for the U.S. market, but it will likely share the new Fit's 1.5L four-cylinder Earth Dreams Technology i-VTEC engine with direct fuel injection, rated at 130 HP. The engine will be matched to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) driving the front wheels. A hybrid version, as well an all-wheel-drive option are being considered for the U.S. market if the initial version sells well.

The HR-V will occupy a slot in the U.S. market between the new Fit and the larger CR-V crossover. The HR-V is 9 inches shorter, 1 inch lower and about 700 pounds lighter than CR-V. This makes the HR-V rather preferable as a sporty small crossover. One HR-V detail has been confirmed: there will be a door handle mounted in the C-pillar at the back of the rear door. The HR-V belongs to the segment of small crossovers and contends against the Buick Encore, Kia Soul, Subaru XV Crosstrek, and Nissan Juke. The 2015 Honda HR-V should arrive late this fall or in the early 2015.

Functional, but the red color doesn’t match the factory light as well as I hoped.
