Typically, they have a cast iron body and steel or phenolic pistons. There are also seals, dust boots, and one or several bleeder screws. Their lifespan varies depending on a number of factors including the climate you live in and your style of driving. On average, they last about 100,000 years. But over time, corrosion starts to form on pistons and cylinder walls primarily due to the moisture in the air. In the worst scenario, pistons get stuck inside. Seals get hard and cracked causing the brake fluid to leak. A worn-out Ford Escape brake caliper may cause inefficient braking, vehicle pulling, and abnormal sounds when braking. This is when it should be replaced without delay.
