Dodge Durango Sway Bars

First introduced more than a hundred years ago, automotive sway bars are successfully used in pretty much any car or SUV, and your Dodge Durango is no exception. Also known as stabilizer bars, they connect the left and right sides of the suspension to add structural rigidity and improve stability while cornering at speed. Commonly, a sway bar is attached to the lower or upper control arms via special links, and its size and shape can differ in various models, but essentially, it's a torsion spring that resists body roll.

In most cases, this piece of steel can serve as long as the vehicle itself, but there are several relatively weak places that may require your attention. Some of them are rubber bushings installed in two points where the bar is attached to the chassis. They help to dampen vibrations that come from the bar, but gradually, rubber deforms, and play appears. As a result, you may hear dull knocks from under the vehicle. Other parts that result in the same symptoms when faulty are ball joints used in the bar's links.
