The French vehicle manufacturer Citroen unveiled its four-wheel drive concept car, the C-Crosser, at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2001. Nevertheless, the compact crossover SUV appeared in the company's lineup only in summer 2007. Though the car was designed by Citroen, it was produced by Mitsubishi Motors on the basis of the Outlander. Being a family car, the Citroen C-Crosser is designed to satisfy every need of every driver. The car is equipped with a 2.2L turbo diesel engine accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 10 seconds, and featuring the top speed of 124 mph. The seating arrangement is similar to that one of the Citroen C4 Picasso. The car can transport up to six passengers, and when more cargo space is needed, the second and the third rows of seats can be folded away.
In 2008 there was added a new 2.4L petrol engine, sourced from Mitsubishi 4B12 GEMA 2.4L engine delivering 170 hp. At this stage, Citroen offers its crossover in two trims: VTR+ and Executive. 18-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, leather seats, a CD multi-changer, and other amenities and accessories are found in the Executive version. Climate control, cruise control, six airbags, automatic headlights, six sound speakers, ABS, electronic stability program, and traction control are all included into the list of standard C-Crosse VTR parts .
The Citroen C-Crosser features exactly the same well-judged chassis and suspension as its sister cars the Mitsubishi Outlander and Peugeot 4007, and boasts durable steering and powerful brakes. Whether it is driven in the city or in the off-road conditions, the integral transmission provides a choice of three options, two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive, and lock modes, that are controlled by ECU. The modes are to provide excellent control under any circumstances. The 2WD is good for dry surfaces where it provides optimal fuel consumption, in 4WD mode torque is distributed between the rear and front axles according to the grip, and the lock mode provides optimal performance in slippery conditions.
One of the most prominent cogs in the Citroen lineup, the C-Crosser is a crossover that does it all. Capable of powering out of even the tightest of spots, it's as sporting as it is stylish. From the defined and accommodating interior, you feel as though you're behind the controls of a space capsule, giving you the most tech-savvy parts available without having to reach too far and potentially compromising your safety. The delightful essence and new-age style make the C-Crosser a stylish powerhouse that any driver can appreciate.
