The Chrysler Concorde is a full-size four-door sedan that first premiered at the 1992 North American International Auto Show. It was released in time for the 1993 model year and was constructed on the Chrysler's front-wheel drive LH platform along with the LHS, 300M, Eagle Vision, and Dodge Intrepid. At its launch, the Chrysler Concorde was equipped with a base 3.3L V6 engine, which produced up to 153 horsepower directed through a standard four-speed automatic transmission. It also showed off a non-touring suspension (the only year the Concorde would offer such). As for the model's dimensions, the Chrysler Concorde measured 113 inches, a width of 74.4 inches in the wheelbase, 56.3 inches in height, and had an overall length of 202.8 inches (1995-97- 201.5 inches).
In 1994, Chrysler added the touring suspension into the list of standard Chrysler Concorde parts, while down the line all 3.3L models were given a boost in horsepower up to 161. A year later, changes to the exterior accessories of the Chrysler Concorde were made, including a revision to the fenders (now sheet metal), a redesigned front-end grille, and various other badging replacements throughout. 1996 welcomed in the arrival of two new trim levels: LX and LXi, with the LXi serving as the more luxurious choices thanks to a longer list of available options. For the last year of the first-generation Chrysler Concorde in 1997, the entry-level 3.3L V6 engine was dropped from the lineup in favor of a 3.5L configuration, which got credit for delivering up to 217 horsepower.
The second generation of the Chrysler Concorde rolled off the line for the 1998 model year. It bore a strong resemblance to the LHS however, the Concorde was designed with different front/rear fascias. The new Concorde was also slightly longer, showing off a 120.5 inch wheelbase that extended out an additional 7.5 inches compared to the first generation's 113 inches. Gone was the previous 3.3L V6 engine. Instead, new engine options consisted of a 2.7L V6 (200 hp) a 3.2L V6 (225 hp) and a 3.5L V6 (214 hp). Both were mated to a standard four-speed automatic transmission. Year-by-year changes included thicker carpeting, the addition of a sunroof, and an influx of options for the top-level LXi model. In 2002, the 3.5l V6 engine saw an increase up to 253 horsepower on the Concorde Limited. 2004 was the last year of production for the Chrysler Concorde, as it would be replaced on the roster by the emerging Chrysler 300. Even still, the Concorde was a successful car for the American automaker, having been named a Consumer Guide Best Buy numerous times (1999-2004) as well as to Car and Driver magazine's vaunted Ten Best List (1993, 1994, and 1998).
Elegant and high-performing, the Chrysler Concorde is not your typical full-size. Luxurious amenities, top-quality parts, and a sparkling interior design give this model the image of a straight-ahead upscale automobile, but its drivability has also underlined the Concorde's success story. Wide-cornered wheels combined with a staunch V6 engage highway freedom in a bigger way than most of its competitors. As the machine that helped birth the 300 series, Chrysler's Concorde boasts a dynamic and respectful legacy.
