Product Details

Parking Brake Strut Spring Set by Carlson®. The parking brake strut spring prevents the parking brake strut bar from rattling when the parking brake is not applied. If the spring is fatigued and you're hearing noise, these replacements from Carlson will restore quiet operation.

The inside of a brake drum is a harsh environment, with parts continually exposed to extreme heat. After many years and miles this can take its toll on springs, weakening them and causing them to lose their tension. The parking brake strut is attached to the parking brake lever and brake shoes, and is activated when the parking brake is applied, forcing the shoes against the drum to keep the vehicle from moving. The strut spring is installed on the end of the strut bar and keeps it from rattling when the parking brake is not in use. If the spring becomes weak it can result in noise when the parking brake is off. To keep your brakes quiet, replace these springs whenever new brake shoes are installed.

Not the Quality I Was Expecting for a Usa Made Product.
Purchased this kit on Ebay for $35.99. Installed in my 1970 Thunderbird rear brake system. Within less that 300 miles my rear brakes failed. Upon inspection the brake linings disintegrated. Upon replacing the brake shoes I noticed that the compression springs didn't hold the shoes tightly. SO I ordered a new hardware kit from NAPA. When comparing the the old to new, the Carlson compression springs were badly compressed and offered little retention support for the shoes. Further inspection revealed the holding pins were bent and much smaller in diameter than the NAPA brand. Also the other retaining springs were enlongated and offer much less tension. The Carlson kit I purchased was for a 1967-70 Thunderbird, but the quality of the kit wasn't up to the task. Hopefully the NAPA kit will last much longer. I noticed the Carlson price for the kit is under $6, sure not worth the $36 I paid.

Excellent OEM Quality Parts.
Bought these at half the price of OEMs and they are same quality as OEM. Installed easily without any issues.

Obsolete Parts Not With Carlson Around
Carlson has the obsolete parts no one else has. I ordered 5 sets of these parts because not even Ford dealer parts departments sells these parts in Canada, they are obsolete. I was surprised to find these parts readily available & at a very reasonable price. Being that these parts are obsolete, I paid under $100 for all 5 sets. The materials in the kit are top quality, the kit is complete, not a small part missing, the materials used for the springs is not brittle like some aftermarket kits are renowned for. All in all, Carlson has the parts no one else carries, reason enough to buy Carlson Break Kits.
