The Skylark nameplate first appeared back in 1953, when a limited-production convertible version of the Roadmaster model was presented to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Buick. In 1961 another unique version, this time of the Buick Special, was named the Skylark. It was a two-door sporty coupe with special exterior trim and upscale interior. One year later, the automobile got its own place as a separate model, starting a long career that lasted until 1998. Seven generations of mid-size and compact cars followed, conforming to contemporary tastes, emerging technologies, and changing social requirements. Luxury, reliability, smooth and easy ride, however, remained constant and undisputed Buick Skylark's features.

Each generation of the Skylark reflects a specific period of the U.S. history, deserving therefore special care to preserve those memories. A good starting point would certainly be regular checks of the cooling system, responsible for keeping the engine at the proper working temperature.
