The Aston Martin Vantage made its debut in 1977. Originally, the Vantage name was used for the high-performance versions of the GT cars produced by Aston Martin, but this time it was a separate model introduced as “Britain's First Supercar.” It was based on the Aston Martin V8 coupe, but with a great number of modifications to the powertrain parts and exterior design. Larger inlet valves, bigger carburettors, increased compression ratio and other changes made it possible to give 170 mph with the 0 to 60 mph acceleration in 5.3 seconds, faster than Ferrari Daytona.
The latest generation of the hand-built Aston Martin Vantage sport coupe was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005. This two-seat car was powered by a 4.3 liter 32-valve V8 front mid-mounted engine that delivered 380 horsepower. Later, Vantage was renewed with 4.7 liter 420 horsepower V8 engine and the “V8 Vantage Power Upgrade” was available for the old 4.3 liter engine, increasing its peak power to 400 bhp and peak torque to 420Nm. The production of 10,000th chassis was highlighted by a specially ordered Onyx Coupe, delivered to the US clients in the first half of the year 2008. This production volume is a significant achievement for a super car. Vantage is available in several modifications: Roadster, V12 Vantage, N400, and Prodrive V8 Vantage.
In 2008, this sport coupe was modified with hi-end upgrades, including the updated 'Sportshift' semi-automatic transmission, refined suspension stiffened with the Bilstein dampers. The 'Sports Pack' for tighter handling was also offered as an option. Aston Martin V8 Vantage took a great number of awards for its design, and performance achievements. In 2006 the readers of Car Design News, mostly automobile designers, voted V8 Vantage as the best current production car design. The 'All Stars' automotive magazine also noted Aston Martin sports car for its road manners, design, and performance.
There is one truth when it comes to automotive excellence: provide what drivers need and what drivers want. A truth often ignored by more conventional and cost-minded automakers. Whether we are talking about accessories, design, performance or any other parts, Aston Martin refuses to cater to anything but excellence. The Vantage promises the strength and endurance of a cavalry while still allowing for the comfort of a five-star hotel. With its signature V8 and a sound that is as dominant as it is soothing, the Vantage explodes misconceptions about performance-oriented automobiles and is an escort to the promised land that you always knew existed.
