Despite its small size, the Mercedes GLB has room for the optional third row. It expands seating capacity to seven and makes this model Benz's first SUV in the compact class to accommodate that many passengers. The newcomer shares the modular platform with its smaller sibling while being roughly 5 inches longer. The only model available at launch is the Mercedes GLB-Class 250, powered by a 2.0-liter 221-hp turbo four. Power is managed by an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission which sends it to the front axle, but the 4Matic AWD is available. The latter can operate in several selectable modes which vary in the amount of torque distributed to the wheels. In the default eco mode, 80% of power goes to the front axle, with only 20% reserved for the rear. "Sport" is based on a 70/30 front-rear distribution, while on rough terrain, there is a balanced 50/50 split. In addition to these modes that help achieve proper traction, there's a hill start assist and the program which shows up/down angle graphics on hilly terrain along with technical information.
