The Chevy Colorado starts the 2020 model year without an awaited mid-cycle facelift and offers just a few updates. The Buckle to Drive system is the new safety feature intended to keep drivers buckled up, hence the name. Its working principle is simple – if you crank your Colorado up but forget to buckle up, the system won’t allow you to shift for up to 20 seconds. Then, after pressing the brake pedal, you will hear an audible signal and see a dedicated message in the information center of your truck. The new system is standard for all versions of the model but works only when the Teen Driver feature is on. Other changes are minor. For significant upgrades, lots of aftermarket 2020 Chevy Colorado accessories and parts are at your disposal.
For 2020, all variants of the truck come with Tire Fill Alert, while ZR2, Z71 and LT grades also received a remote locking tailgate (optional on the Work Truck). The last one also features the EZ-lift tailgate now. 2WD Z71 variants with extended cab and crew cab and long box were dropped. As for interior improvements, the 2020 Chevy Colorado employs the Infotainment Plus System instead of the Infotainment Premium system (both with navigation). The Jet Black/Dark Ash interior was deleted, and the Jet Black leather trim is now available only for LT crew cab models fitted with the Luxury Package. Some package changes were made too. The Z71 trim can now be outfitted with the Safety Package including a number of advanced safety features. The Chrome Luxury Package was renamed the Luxury Package and is now available for crew cab versions only. A pair of Luxury Special Edition packages, namely Redline and RST, were dropped. These were purely appearance packs adding a number of accessories and parts that brought aesthetic changes.
The mechanicals of the truck remained unchanged. The vehicle still offers three engine choices, with a 2.5 L inline-4 good for 200 hp being the base one. A more robust 3.6 L V6 rated at 308 hp and a 181-hp turbodiesel mill are available optionally. The standard gasoline and diesel engines are connected to a 6-speed automatic, while the top-of-the-line unit works together with an 8-speed automatic. The list of standard features is long enough and includes tilt steering, power windows, air conditioning, rearview camera, 6-speaker sound system, vinyl upholstery, infotainment system with smartphone integration, and others. However, if the list of factory-installed features doesn’t include the one you want, you can always browse a variety of 2020 Chevy Colorado parts and accessories made by aftermarket companies.
