Nissan unveiled their second-generation Leaf for 2018, but for the following model year, the vehicle received significant improvements. The 2019 Nissan Leaf utilizes a much upgraded powertrain including a higher-capacity battery and more potent motor. The latter now delivers an almost 50-percent improvement in power, being capable of generating 160 kW (nearly 220 hp) instead of 110 kW. The new motor enables the 2019 Nissan Leaf to reach 60 mph in 6.5 seconds, which is 2 seconds faster than the 2018 variant. The battery pack offers a 50-percent improvement as well – now it’s rated at 60 kWh instead of 40 kWh. In addition, the battery received a new cell by LG and thermal management system. The improvement largely increases maximum range that now tops out at 225 miles (150 miles for the 2018 Leaf). Plus, the new variant comes with an upgraded internal charger that is good for 11-22 kW and DC fast charging can deliver up to 100 kW. So, the new Leaf can be recharged to 80 percent in less than 20 minutes. A new long-range version of the model, called the Nissan Leaf Plus, is equipped with a larger battery of higher capacity. It is available in three trim levels: S, SV, and SL. The new, more powerful motor is capable of producing 214 hp. The estimated range of the new sub-model exceeds 226 miles, which is roughly 40 percent more than that of a standard version. The top speed of the Leaf Plus is also increased by about 10 percent.

The second-generation Leaf by Nissan unveiled for 2018 offers a wide range of improvements, both inside and out. The Leaf also uses Intelligent Ride Control that improves steering control and ride quality, decreases vibration and provides more precise torque control.
