Powertrain and chassis tech is impressive as well, and the A8's lightweight architecture with an extensive use of aluminum and carbon fiber is only part of the story. The car comes with the BAS (Belt Alternator Starter) that is part of a system that can basically be called mild hybrid. It is an electric motor that is teamed with a 48-volt electrical system. This motor is connected to the crankshaft via a belt, and even if the engine shuts down at cruising speed, this small motor can provide power to the crankshaft. Audi's AI active suspension can change the height of all four corners independently to better respond to road conditions. The system also incorporates four-wheel steering. Power for the North American 2019 Audi A8 comes from a 3.0-liter V6 or 4.0-liter V8, rated at 330 hp and 450 hp, respectively.
