Since its first appearance in the mid-90s, the Subaru Outback has always been a spacious and comfortable family wagon. With enough road clearance, it can serve as an alternative for a midsize crossover. It can take you to your favorite fishing spot and farther, while offering ample room for your family, friends, and pets to travel in comfort. According to Subaru, the Outback model can even be called a sport utility wagon. And the 2018 Subaru Outback with the all-wheel-drive system is a clear confirmation of it.
What's new about this model for the 2018 model year? Some functional upgrades have made it even more capable and comfortable than before. The suspension has been updated, and the steering system has been retuned. However, it is still equipped with the effective SUBARU BOXER® flat engines carried over from 2017: a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder or a 3.6-liter 6-cylinder, making 174 and 256 horsepower respectively. Each of engine options is teamed with a continuously variable automatic transmission. The setup also includes the firm's features such as the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system with Active Torque Vectoring, the X-Mode system, and Hill Descent Control. Working together, they optimize operation of an engine, transmission, and braking system, and thus improve off-road abilities and control of the vehicle. The available EyeSight suite of technologies includes pre-collision braking and adaptive cruise control. The lane departure warning system now begins to operate earlier – at over 37 mph.
The exterior has undergone some changes: revised rear and front bumpers, active grille shutters, and some other modifications have imparted a bolder look to the Outback. Adaptive steering and responsive LED headlights are available for higher trims of the 2018 Outback. Inside, it got the newest version of Subaru’s corporate Starlink infotainment system with a bigger and faster-responding 6.5-inch touchscreen display (higher trim levels have a larger 8.0-inch one). The new interface includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems.
