Gradually updating its lineup, Audi finally got to its second smallest model, the A3. Debuted in 2012, the third-generation compact has already gained quite a lot of success in North America and pretty much elsewhere, due in part to its first-ever sedan-bodied version launched in 2013. Unveiled in April 2016, the refreshed A3 reached Audi’s North American dealers in fall as a 2017 model.
The new Audi’s compact got a number of changes both inside and out. It received a new front fascia while aiming to be looking more like its stouter counterparts, and also obtained new tail lights. While the European A3 offers sophisticated matrix LED headlights, its American-spec cousin lights its way up with the help of xenon coming as standard or conventional LED available as an option. Alloy wheels, sides, and most other body parts remained the same. Inside the cockpit, the new car got a revised cluster panel and dashboard with the optional “Virtual Cockpit” layout already seen in the Q7 and a few other Audi models. This system uses a fully digital instrument panel that employs a 12.3-inch TFT display. While showing traditional speedometer and tachometer gauges in the “classic” mode, the system switches to the “infotainment” mode when the driver pushes a button on a steering wheel to display a navigation map, audio system controls, and other features.
Mechanical-wise, the 2017 Audi A3 didn’t see any remarkable changes. The sedan and convertible take power from either a 1.8L I4 (170 hp) or a bigger 2.0L engine (220 hp), while a performance sedan ups the pony count of a 2.0L unit to 292 hp. The drivetrain may still have a standard front-wheel drive or an optional Audi Quattro all-wheel drive, both of which receive torque from a seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission. Overall, the new A3 features almost identical to the pre-facelift model’s price and performance, and is expected to find a comparable to its predecessor’s favorable market acceptance.
The ownership of any of Audi models normally doesn’t give any troubles, as these are reliable and thoughtfully engineered cars. However, even these automobiles need regular maintenance and can drop their performance over time. If you’re looking for 2017 Audi A3 parts and accessories, CARiD.com will help you.
